Knicks, Blazers, Clippers trade could be in works

Posted on: January 5, 2009 11:26 am

The New York Daily News reports that the Trail Blazers, the Knicks and the Clippers could be mulling over a three-way trade that would send David Lee to Portland and Quentin Richardson to Los Angeles, and both Marcus Camby and Channing Frye to New York.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh denied that he was working on the trade, although the Daily News said several sources within the Knicks organization confirmed that the prospect of adding Camby to the roster has been discussed recently.

Portland has been interested in Lee for some time, and it is believed that Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni would be happy to exchange the 6-9 Lee for the 7-0 Camby at center.

Why would the Clippers want Quentin Richardson again and his contract? Richardson has a history of back problems. Before the injury bug hit, the Clippers were starting to look like a dangerous team. At least Camby can still rebound and play defense. The contract lengths are about the same. The Clippers would be the big losers in this trade, especially if Richardson exercises his player option. The Clippers would have to hope Q leaves to open up cap space next year. Otherwise being involved in this trade doesn't make sense.

The Knicks really want to move Eddy Curry off their books. His weight problems lead to knees injuries. Curry has a reputation for playing soft and he's too short and not athletic enough to be a starting center or PF. David Lee is a nice role player and can be a piece for a contender. Signing Lee is not an option for the Knicks if they want to make a run at LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh in 2010.

The Brazers would get an upgrade with David Lee over Channing Frye and increase their position depth. Lee can be used as a 6th man or SF.

This trade make no sense at all. If you just want get rip of Q by give up David Lee (one of most value insider even in the whole league). And you get Camby(who almost done his career) and Frye (who's very inconsistent).

Absolutely, this a big a mistake.

I totally disagree as a NYK fan

As a Blazer fan, I demand Portland accept this trade in a heartbeat! David Lee is one of the most under the radar stars in the NBA, and he would be a great addition in Portland. I hope and pray this trade comes to fruition. It would do a lot to solidify the Blazers front court and ready them for the rigors of the rest of the season.

As a huge knicks fan  this trade would be a killer for the usas David Lee is the clear crowd favorite.  What team wouldn't want to have a top 5 rebounder and 15 points a game from a player who works harder than santa claus on christmas? He is New York's favorite player and it would be a huge mistake to trade him away for channing frye who couldn't cut it the first time he played in New York.  Also talks of Eddy Curry coming back and getting time once he gets fit enough for D'Antoni's offensive scheme make me question the trade for Camby who is injury prone.  However, getting rid of Q would be a great boost for the team and open up some cap room for Lebron, Nash, Bosh, and/or Wade..heck i'll take 'em all.

How is Camby way past his prime? Whenever you can still grab 27 rebounds in a game, you still have some magic left. He averages a double-double every night basically. Especially because he plays for the horrible Clippers. Camby to the Knicks makes sense. David Lee is a good player, I don't see how trading him makes sense. I say never mind Portland, trade Q for Camby. Frye going back to NY doesnt make sense either.

I like the 2 trades Walsh made thus far.  The proposed rumor here is absurd. You are basically saying the Knicks would trade David Lee to Portland for Channing Frye.  Nah.

Frye is a spare part, Camby is well past his prime.  Lee is a solid rebounder with the most upside of any name mentioned here.  Q Richardson's contract comes off the books in 2010.

Now adding Camby's expiring contract in a deal involving Richardson would make sense IF the Clippers really want Richardson, something I'm not sure is the case.

I'm down with this trade for the simple fact N.Y should have never let Camby go in the first place I just hope his return isn't too late. Also getting rid of Q is a blessing in disguised and whats the deal with Frye this will still leave us with a big man glut unless they are planning on another move behind this one.
