Reports: Marbury headed to Celtics

Now that former two-time All-Star Stephon Marbury has been granted a buyout from the New York Knicks, it is widely believed he will sign with the Boston Celtics.

"I don't see how this doesn't happen, but I guess that's always a possibility," an executive with another team told the Boston Herald on Tuesday. "I just think this is all set -- and I think it's going to work out better than a lot of people expect."

The Knicks filed to put Marbury on waivers on Tuesday after the NBA had closed for business for the day. Assuming the league files the paperwork Wednesday morning, Marbury would be eligible to sign with the Celtics as early as Friday morning. He would also be eligible for the postseason roster.

The Boston Globe adds that Marbury is expected to earn a prorated $1.3 million veteran's minimum contract with Boston.

"I'm blessed to be able to move on with my career," Marbury said. "I'm excited about the new beginning."

Reports: Marbury headed to Celtics

The Knicks are finally starting to do something right and for the sake of the Boston Celtics, I hope that Marbury comes in humble and productive.  The last thing that the Celtic fans need to see if Starbury showing up.  Perhaps the move will humble the young man a little and he will realize that he can and will be more productive when he is in uniform than in a suit.  The Big Ticket Garnett along with Allen and Pierce wil quickly remind him of his place and try to inspire him with the rich tradition of the organization as well as flash their rings from time to time.

This is a good pick up for Boston, but they still need the #1 seed and home court advantage.
