Did you know that.....

  • Washington Wizards were the only team that had defeated the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics at least 3 times in a single season.
  • The Wizards (3-1) and Orlando Magic (2-1) were the only two teams to win the season series against the league-best Celtics.
  • Denver Nuggets finally became the first West team to defeat the Celtics after the Celtics went 16-0 versus the Western Conference teams.
  • Utah Jazz were the only West team to defeat the Celtics at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.
  • The Nuggets, Jazz, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Hornets were the only 5 teams to defeat the Celtics, who finished the best 25-5 record versus the West teams.
  • Fourth-seeded 45-win Cleveland Cavaliers blew the top-seeded 66-win Celtics out by 24 points (108-84) in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
  • Chicago Bulls (3-1) and Sacramento Kings (2-0) were surprisingly the only two losing (sub-50%) teams to win the season series against the 59-win Detroit Pistons.
  • Milwaukee Bucks, a non-playoff losing team with only 26 wins, surprisingly won the 3-1 season series against the playoff-qualified Cavaliers.
  • New York Knicks finished the worst 3-27 record and went winless 0-15 on the road versus the Western Conference teams.   All 3 wins were versus the Northwest Division teams (Jazz, Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves) at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
  • The Jazz, Suns and Houston Rockets were the only 3 winning (over-50%) teams that the league-worst 15-win Miami Heat defeated once apiece.
  • The Rockets set the NBA’s all-time second longest 22-game winning streak, surpassing the 1970-71 Bucks’ 20-game winning streak.
  • The Warriors handed the severely seven-player short-handed Heat its largest defeat of a dismal season (134-99) on March 7, 2008.
  • The Hornets finally clinched its first division championship in the 20-year-old franchise history.
  • The Western Conference became the first conference ever to feature all top eight 50-win teams bouncing to the playoffs in the NBA history.
  • The Nuggets became the first 50-win team ever to get swept in the first round playoff.
  • Atlanta Hawks were the only team remaining undefeated at home (3-0) in the 2008 NBA postseason.
  • The Celtics became the first 65-win team ever to fail a first-round sweep of a losing team with fewer than 40 wins (37-win Hawks) in the NBA playoff history.
  • The Celtics went winless on the road (0-6) in the first two playoff rounds en route to the championship.
  • The meanest Celtics embarrassingly humiliated the good Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals: 24-point collapse in Game 4 and 39-point blowout (131-92) in decisive Game 6.
  • The Celtics ended up playing in 26 playoff games, 2 games short of a full-length postseason of 28, breaking the old 25-game record of the 1994 New York Knicks by one game for the NBA’s record of most postseason games in a single season played by a single team.

VicDaRuler: Thank you for your compliments.  Yes, I completely agree with you.  We are on the same page as the Lakers fans!    I can see that the East is getting tougher than last year.  Not because of the James Posey loss, the Celtics may struggle in some ways and possibly slide at least 10 games from last year's 66-16 record.  You are right that the Celtics may not success amongst the West teams.  I will post my finalized predictions sometime tomorrow or on Sunday, so please check it out.

Note for all: I forgot to add a couple of the things that should be recognized as ones of the NBA histories - Houston Rockets' 22-game winning streak and Boston Celtics setting the NBA's new record of most postseason games played by a single team.

2007-08 NBA Flashback

Wow some interesting tid-bits Foxie.  My observations for next season are that the Celtics wont have such an easy time with the Eastern opponents this year as they did last year.  The east is much stronger then they were last year and no way will a sub .500 team make the playoffs in the east this year.  The Celtics will also not be as successful amongst West teams and especially on the road, they started off fast against the west last year but stayed leveled off in the last few games.  With that said the Celtics will still probably win the east, but wont have as many wins as last season...as I mentioned the east will be stronger and not just a 2 trick pony with Boston and Detroit being the only real contenders.  It was tough reading the last bullet being a Lakers fan, well its a new year and new hope!
