Since there was some heated debate about who to pick between myself and a Phillies fan i'm going to post both players stats all year long, oh and I guess I dont have to tell you who I said i'd pick.

 Games played : Utley 1 Kinsler 1

Utley 0 - 3 walk

Kinsler 3 - 5 two doubles, 1 run, 2 rbi's

Peace...

Ian Kinsler will get more at bats than UTley if they both stay healthy alll year so he will get on base more and steal bases making another point wwhy he is better than utley

Hey Blitz, how goes it? I can admit when i'm wrong. The obvious choice at 2nd even a year later is Chase Utley, the oft injured Ian Kinsler just can't stay on the field long enough to prove he's better. Oh and good luck to the Flyers, should be one of the best cups in years vs the Black Hawks.

Love this blog!  Ian Kinsler and Chase Utley are two or the best second basemen that I have seen in a long time and they will only get better. My vote is for Kinsler. He is a complete five tool player (average will come up) and has a way cooler name. Not to mention he suffered his sports hernia at the same time I did (fate I say). I have Kinsler and Mark johnson (douche bag) has Utley. Both are our perspective favorites on our teams. Long live Kinsler and his artificial gut plug!

Well it's been a while since we had a look at Chase Utley and Ian Kinsler. Looking over it and keeping up with it as much as I have it really couldn't be much closer.

Utley : 70 games (Phillies have played 72) 254 ab's 52 runs 15 doubles 0 triples 16 home runs 49 rbi's 7 sb's 48 so's .430 obp .299 avg .986 fpct

Kinsler : 72 games (Rangers have played 73) 294 ab's 54 runs 17 doubles 2 triples 18 home runs 50 rbi's 16 sb's 42 so's .351 obp .272 avg .987 fpct

Kinsler does have 23 more plate app's. So I guess it really wouldn't matter who you took at this point as they are both having great seasons, but i'll still take Kinsler.

Peace...

Well here we are it's May 13th and it's time to take a look at some stats.

Chase Utley - 2nd base - Philadelphia Phillies
29 games : 102 ab's : 30 hits : 23 runs : 2 doubles : 0 triples : 10 home runs : 23 rbi's : 62 total bases : 17 walks : 19 strikeouts : 2 stolen bases : .419 obp : .608 slg : .294 avg : 133 total chances : 3 errors : .977 fpct

Ian Kinsler - 2nd base - Texas Rangers
32 games : 138 ab's : 45 hits : 25 runs :10 doubles : 1 triple : 9 home runs : 28 rbi's : 84 total bases : 10 walks : 24 strikeouts : 8 stolen bases : .371 obp : .609 slg : .326 avg : 164 total chances : 3 errors : .982 fpct

It looks as though even though kinsler's health had been a question the rangers have played 32 games, kinsler has played 32 games, utley however has been dealing with an injury to his right foot that has seen his play drop the last week or so, since being hit May 1st by Mike Pelfrey of the Mets he is 5 - 29 and has struck out 8 times in his last 17 ab's.

So even though both players are having very good seasons thus far I will still take kinsler.

Peace...

So would the guy be considered genius if he had made the trade?

Imo, yes he would.  Look at the SO #'s.  Roto league or 1-on-1, those count against ya.

Unfortunately the deceiving statistic is the fact that Chase Utley missed at least 2 games due to inclement weather, which nobody can predict.  The bonus?  Those games will either get tacked on to another week for some extra bonus stats, or some leagues will go back and add those to the weeks in April.  So technically...this month isn't over yet :P

Well it's May 1st, let's see if that guy that should have made the trade would be considered a genius shall we?

Chase Utley : 20 games - 73 ab's - 25 hits - 18 runs - .342 avg - 1 double - 0 triples - 7 home runs - 20 rbi's - 2 sb's - .461 obp - .644 slg - 1.105 ops

Ian Kinsler : 21 games - 90 ab's - 29 hits - 18 runs - .322 avg - 7 doubles - 1 triple - 7 home runs - 20 rbi's - 7 sb's - .384 obp - .656 slg - 1.04 ops

Wow, looks pretty even, the couple of things that stand out, utley's obp is amazing. kinsler's 15 extra base hits is tops for all 2nd basemen, while utley's 8 would tie him for 11th in extra base hits for a 2nd baseman. If you are playing in a roto league kinsler is having the better year for you because of those extra base hits and his 7 stolen bases which also leads all 2nd basemen. Obviously you cannot go wrong with either player but as i've said all along i'll take kinsler. So would the guy be considered genius if he had made the trade? I don't think so. Let's hope both players play as well in May as they did in April.

Peace...

Lets check those stat lines.

Ian Kinsler

Games: 20  AB: 86    Runs: 18   H: 28   Average: .326   RBI: 20  BB: 7  K: 19  SB: 7 CS: 1  OBP: .383  Slug: .674

Chase Utley

Games: 19  AB: 70  Runs: 18   H:  25   Average: .357  RBI: 20  BB: 10  K: 10  SB: 2  CS: 0  OBP: .471  Slug: .671

Considering Chase Utley has played 1 less game (due to weather), I would say that Utley has been more productive.

All in all, still #'s 1 and 2 in MLB.

Good for Kinsler, looks like he's having a hot month of April.  That's good.  Very good for me.

Well, ok Nos.  You got me on my half-sarcastic comment about the end of April.  Still, you can't disregard the fact that you doubted Utley's ability to hit well in the beginning of the year, and look at that...he's right now #2.  Lets see how this progresses over the course of the next 2 months.  See who'll be more consistant, and who has the best peak performances.  Remember Chase Utley's streak of 5 games in a row with a HR last year?  And that he did it, twice.

Unfortunately, Chase Utley has now missed two games.  Well, him and the Phillies.  I bet that hurt somebody somewhere.  That's an unfortunate case of the weather though.
