#18 Florida Gators 3-0

Florida Starting Lineup:
G Walter Hodge Sr.
G/F Nick Calathes Soph.
F Dan Werner Jr.
F Alex Tyus Soph.
F Chandler Parsons Soph.

Key Bench Players:
G Erving Walker Fr.
F/C Kenny Kadji Fr.
G/F Ray Shipman Fr.
F Allan Chaney Fr.

Previous Game: Florida looked flat out bad in their last game v. Southern Utah. They won 64-50, but they went 0-15 from three in the first 39:37 seconds of the game. They finally made one with 23 seconds to go. Nick Calathes was their saving grace as he was the only player in double-digits finishing with 18 pts, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. If Florida was playing a team with any skill, they would have lost.

Game Preview: Florida will shoot the three, and shoot it a lot. In a game this season, v. Bradley, they shot the three 32 times, making 14 of them. But the next game, as I previously mentioned, they made 1-16 from 3, watch out for Dan Werner and Walter Hodge from behind the line. With their lack of inside presence I don't see how else they will get much offense going. Expect Onuaku to get doubled again. Last game he got double teams and Freshman Kris Joseph went off for a career day, he was always open. Don't expect to see the 2-3, ever since the 2nd half of the Richmond game Cuse has played a stout man defense. I expect Harris to be manned up on Calathes, who is the key to Florida's success, overall I think Cuse is just too physical for Florida.

My Prediction: Florida comes out and shoots the three fairly well. But Onuaku is too much down low, and Harris doesn't allow Calathes to really get going. Cuse wins 76-68.

Final Score: 89-83 Syracuse

Florida Gators Game Preview

I've been looking forward to this game since I saw the matchup about a week ago.  Florida was young and athletic last year and should be improved this season, I think they have a real chance to win the SEC.  Syracuse is very talented, especially Flynn and Harris, I expect Flynn to have a monster season.  You add in the guys they had hurt last season returning and Syracuse is a sleeper team that is going to make some noise in the Big East.  I know I'm looking forward to later in the season when my Louisville Cardinals go to the Carrier Dome.  As for this game, which just started, I think the Orange's athlete's and toughness of Demendorf will be too much for Florida.

This is a big game for me considering I live in nyc and will be spending thanksgiving in syracuse with a bunch of oranges. definitely don't want to have to hear about this one if we lose. But because all my roommates are syracuse fans I saw every game last year and so far this year. because of how inconsistent cuse is from the field on any given day I like Florida's chances to win. However I do think syracuse will be better this year without green and his selfishness.

The thing to remember about Syracuse is not their size as much as their athleticism.  Harris is a strong, athletic 6'5.  Flynn is a very quick, and athletic 6 footer.  Onuaku is a big 6'9, and he has pretty good athleticism as well.  Rautins is close to 6'6, Kris Joseph is 6'7, Rick Jackson is an athletic 6'9.  So, is Syracuse a big team, yes - although they lack anyone, not named Sean Williams, near 7'0 - but, they are also very athletic, and it is that athleticism which makes them dangerous.

Yea, you probably won't see Mookie today, definitely tomorrow.  On the other hand, Im willing to bet Joseph is the first off the bench.

yeah there center is 6'8'' 220. not exactly gonna bang with AO.

i assume flynn will play less than 40 minutes just b/c of the game tomorrow, but would not think twice if he plays whole game, we need to beat florida more than kansas so boeheim may just leave it all out there for the first game.

and we do not have two more ball handlers. devo is bad in the turnover department so is rautins, who has been just bad in every department.  until we prove otherwise i would press this team.

boeheim always shortens the bench in big games, dont expect to see the freshmen.

The "lack of inside presence" is slowly starting to be addressed as Chaney and Kadji start to look better and gel with the rest of the team.  Chaney actually looked pretty good in the first two games but then had his playing time cut short due to Kadji looking like a completly different player against S Utah.  Kadji was strong and agressive and started to look like he belonged on the court with the Gator team.  I expect these two will make more of a stir in this game than most anyone realizes.  They don't need to be dominant, just take a bit of pressure off the perimeter.

Mike, Florida may be tall, but they are not big.  Harris is big, he may be 6 foot 5 but he is something like 230 pounds.  Onuaku is 6 foot 9 275 pounds of muscle.  Syracuse is much more physical than Florida.

CMC, I disagree with you.  Last season the TO's where because the team was extremely tired, not because they just couldn't break the press.  Now a year older, and wiser with a deeper bench.  I think we will be fine.

Also, in case you didn't know, Devo matched up with the 6 foot 7 guy is exactly what we want.  The 6 foot 7 guy aka Werner is a spot up shooter, not gonna take you to the basket and dunk on you, Devo is a little shorter at 6 foot 4 but 3 inches isn't all that much.  I do expect Flynn to see a lot of court time but I doubt it's the entire game.  Depending on how the game is going I see Boeheim resting him as much as possible today, us having a game the next day and all.
