So, typically, I have been dedicating this space to bashing on the BCS. While I still hate that system, something has come up that is even more pathetic: the NFL. I don't understand the penalties that the "powers that be" are dishing out. Today, Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan were fined $25,000 for fighting during the Houston/Tennessee game yesterday. Last week, Richard Seymour was fined $25,000 for punching Ben Roethlisberger in the jaw after a touchdown pass. Let's put things in perspective. Johnson's salary for this year is $5.5 million, Finnegan's is $2.7 million and Seymour's is $3.8 million. On the flip side, James Harrison of the Steelers was fined $75,000 earlier this year for a hit that did not draw a flag during the game. Now, every time he looks at the QB wrong, a flag comes in. What Johnson, Finnegan and Seymour did deserves at least a three-game suspension (probably more). At least Harrison's was during an actual play. At least I can give the NFL one thing: their calls are consistent...consistently BAD!
