What We Learned--Week 1

  • Let the Boise hype begin. The Broncos looked tough in their opening game. And, for all the haters, they took down an SEC team (albeit Georgia). Look for the hype to continue until the bowl games are announced as it doesn't look like they will be challenged for the rest of the regular season. Although, an upset could always happen.
  • Let the Irish hype die. Every year, Notre Dame starts the year ranked and all the big-time sports personalities start talking about "this year could be their year." Every year, Notre Dame looks pathetic in an early season loss. I stopped drinking the Kool-Aid a long time ago. I'm just glad that they lost in week 1 this year so I will not have to hear about them for the rest of the season.
  • LSU's defense/special teams is scary. In watching their opening game against Oregon, it was hard to imagine that the Ducks had one of the best offenses last year. LSU's defense is just that good. This year, they will be able to keep up with the SEC heavyweights and could possibly run the table, but I won't go that far yet. They still have to go to Tuscaloosa.

Games of the week

Alabama at Penn St.

Mississippi St. at Auburn

Nevada at Oregon (if the Duck's offense doesn't rebound)
