Suns sign Dee Brown

Posted on: December 24, 2008 1:17 pm

Dee Brown has won the Phoenix Suns' point-guard derby. Phoenix signed the 2006 second-round pick Wednesday to serve as Steve Nash's backup.

The Suns worked out a half-dozen point guards on Monday: Brown, Darrell Armstrong, Eddie Gill, Troy Hudson, Walker Russell Jr. and Damon Stoudamire. Funny, I didn't see Stephon Marbury's name on that list. Must be some mistake.

The Suns were compelled to look outside for point guard help, reportedly because they've been disappointed with the progress of 2008 second-round pick Goran Dragic. They contributed $500,000 toward Dragic's buyout with his Spanish team, Tau Ceramica, but with the addition of Brown, Dragic could be headed to the D-League.

The Suns have 13 players under contract, two under the limit, so they have flexibility to do some more tinkering before the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

Comparing Kerr to Thomas is funny. Isiah took a whole league down, then the Knicks, and then himself with the harrassment case. Kerr has yet to go down in flames with one job. Kerr will never have the opportunity to do it twice if he does fail. Thomas was like George W. Bush. Did the worst job in the world, and still got a second chance. Black has nothing to do with it, the celebrity of Isiah has everything to do with why he got to go up in flames more than once.

I think Dee Brown will be fine with the Suns. I honestly think he can give a little more than Dragic can right now. He doesn't have to go out there and score a ton. He can keep the tempo up with Steve on the bench and plays better than average defense. He'll be fine, just gotta give him a chance.

ever stop to think that analysts aren't surprised when white players drafted become busts??? there are very few elite nba players that are white despite some foreign players and nearly the entire nba consists of black it is quite surprising when a number one overall pick that is black doesn't succeed...however a white player not succeeding doesn't surprise anyone...typically white nba players are not as athletic and quick as many black players and therefore shouldn't be in the nba...the players you mentioned were very good college players but to say that they were expected to be franchise turnaround players would be just silly...they were destined to be role players in the nba and that's exactly what they are....the most gifted players are african-american so don't bring up one player (kwame brown) and think you have a valid point...kwame brown was simply a bigger disappointment than the others because HE HAD MORE POTENTIAL...the world isn't out to get get that through your thick skull.

Whatever playmaker. We'll see if the suns become a disaster. And to some how turn this into a black and white thing is beyond me. You have issues? However, this does nothing to help the suns, but give Steve a break once in awhile. After Steve Nash, the suns have nothing in guard help.

Good college player who just couldn't find his niche in the NBA.Hard to believe Deron Williams played second fiddle to this guy in college at Illinios.

Why play the Race Card? The Suns are a whole lot better than the Knicks! Idiot! Isaih wasn't fired because he is black! He had 2 chances to run a team (Toronto and N.Y.) and did nothing to make either one better. That's why he got fired!

he very well may not work out and i think he will rarely play, other than to spell steve nash....but it's not like kerr broke the bank with a one year contract on dee brown who was a terrific college player.
