Which Marbury is going to Venezuela?

Posted on: January 26, 2009 11:10 am

More Marbury news.

Two pieces of Marbury news, actually.

The New York Times reports that Zach Marbury, Stephon's younger brother, is close to signing a one-year deal with Los Guaros De Lara in the Liga Profesional de Baloncesto in Venezuela. Z-bury, who wasn't drafted after leaving the University of Rhode Island early in 2001 and has made no inroads toward playing in the NBA, says he's been working out with his more famous brother in Southern California and has regained his drive.

Meanwhile, back in the States, in the Liga Luna de Baloncesto, Stephon Marbury tells the New York Post that he has a verbal agreement to sign with the Boston Celtics. Danny Ainge, the Celtics' president, declined to comment on the report, calling it a "rumor." I'm checking with other sources and will get back to you after I finish yawning.

Does anybody care? Does anybody think the Marbury brothers could wind up in the same backcourt in Venezuela?

Which Marbury is going to Venezuela?

Marbury will merely be a scoring option for the second unit if the second unit is struggling offensively which it does every 4th or 5th game...he can create his own offense which was to be tony allens job...i worry more about  gabe pruitts developement than Rondo's..Rondo is a stud and marbury or no marbury will not change that

Marbury would be a FINE signing for Boston.  Just as with many players that many of you don't understand, Marbury is a Millionare who wants to win and refuses to take BUNK from anyone because he is rich. Put him around people he respects and he is a great guy.  He and Kevin got along fine, and they could use a guy like him.

Which Marbury is going to Venezuela?

This "The Knicks won't let me go because they don't want me to win a championship" is so ridiculously whiny-spoiled-brat that it could only be coming from Marbury. It's certainly not unknown for pro sports franchises to be owned by whiny spoiled brats with overinflated senses of entitlement (see: Steinbrenner; Snyder; J. Jones; A. Davis; etc.) but holding a player hostage so he can't go play for a contender is just nuts. Which makes me think Starbury made it up.

Do what we do, that is exactly the problem.  If they do not know what to do with him and he ends up the 7th or 8th man, he is only going to cause trouble, especially only getting 10 minutes a game.  I know being a Knicks fan.  Cancerbury is about himself and only about himself and will not be pleasant unless he is a top offensive option and he is starting and that will be evident once he gets comfortable in his new surroundings.  He is acting like he will take a reduced role now only so he can get signed by another team, but he will return to his old ways once he ends up on the C's and has a similar role to Cassell last year.  And although Cassell has not played at all off the bench and is older, at least he is a leader and a winner and not a team cancer like Marbury.  I'd rather have an older, experienced, playoff-tested 2 time champion than a younger, very talented me-first veteran who is still capable of huge numbers because I am telling you, he WILL destroy your chances at a title.  All you need to do is look at the Suns, Nets, Twolves, and Knicks and how depserate each wanted him gone.  I guarantee the same will happen in Boston b/c you cannot teach an old dog new tricks.

Which Marbury is going to Venezuela?

"he is taking on the smallest role he has ever played in order to TRY and put a team over the hump"

PLEASE!!  The Celtics made it over the hump last year and now Marbury just wants a ring handed to him.  It's not like he's taking a chance and going to Cleveland or Atlanta...

Does it matter?

With all the playing time that Rondo and Allen take up, what would we do with Marbury. Cassell is already on the bench and has averaged 15 point throughout his career. I understand that Marbury is better than Cassell and younger my point is how much is he actually going to play.  The Celtics should focus more about getting another big man, at guard they even have Eddie House, Tony Allen, and Pruitt, so I just don't see how he fits.  On a different note though if he is fine not playing alot then sure he is good enough to be our 7 or 8th man and get 10 minutes per game why not.

For every Celtics fan out there, you do not want this "cancer" and I mean cancer.  Take it from a Knicks fan.  Your title hopes will be doomed if he come along.  He is about Marbury and all about Marbury.  He will control the ball when he has it and look for his own shot before looking for others and once he gets comfortable in his new surroundings or feels he is putting up good enough stats, he will demand to start.  The Celtics are a real team:  a group of players who blend well together and sacrifrice stats in favor of what is best for the team and leading to wins.  That's what Pierce, Garnett, and Allen did.  Marbury or Cancerbury as I like to call him does not preach the whole self-sacrifice team concept and will alienate teammates like he did in NY, Phoenix, Minny, and New Jersey.  Each team, including my Knicks, have played better after they dumped this loser.  He is only a Knick by contract.  To all Celtics fans who want this cancer, be careful what you wish for.  His numbers fooled the Knicks, Nets, Wolves, and Suns and each team realized what a cancer he was after the fact.  And he already played with Garnett and refused to be second fiddle so they had to trade him to NJ.  He may say he wants to play with KG again and not care about the $ and say he wants to win, but when he realizes he is not even the fourth scoring option on the team, he will alienate everyone and become trouble.  As excited as I was when we got him b/c of his attractive stats, I will be even more thrilled once he is officially off our roster.  But Celtics fans, I am warning you all in advance.
