No KG, no Banner 18

You can feel the misery wafting down the I-95 corridor from Boston as we speak. If it's true that Kevin Garnett is out for the entire postseason, then the entire postseason is going to be decidedly shorter than anticipated for the Celtics.

Sure, they can beat the Bulls without Garnett. But then what? The defending champs will be a very vulnerable team heading into the Orlando series, that's what.

I expect the Celtics to rally around the rest of their core, which is still as good as anyone else in the East other than Orlando and Cleveland. I'd expect Paul Pierce to continue in the role of emotional leader and crunch-time assassin. I'd expect Ray Allen to raise his game and shoot the ball even better. I'd expect the role players -- Eddie House, Leon Powe, Big Baby Davis, etc. -- to respond to the challenge. This is a proud group that will fight as long and as hard as possible to extend the Celtics' playoff life in the hopes that KG can make it back.

But Doc Rivers' comments on WEEI in Boston Thursday were decidedly grim.

"We're going to have to move on without him," Rivers said after watching Garnett try and fail to complete a 20-minute team run.

The Celtics aren't commenting on Rivers' interview with the radio station, whose website, WEEI.com, is oddly offline at the moment. Maybe from all the suicidal Celtics fans trying to find Rivers' audio clip.

The Celts willl not get by the Bulls without KG.  I think that this could be a gimmick, like when Pierce got injured in the post season last year and then came back in the game and it re-ignited the fans. If in fact this is a ploy, then Rivers is a lying SOB.

lol that is funny.  Still sour over last season huh.  How about this...Jordan hits the shot from the foul line and jumps in the air and pumps his fist.  That had to hurt too.  The thing that will hurt the most though is when King James goes to New York.  Seriously dude why are you a Cavs fan when despair is the only thing you celebrate.  Oh and by the way...you don't get by the Magic

This really does hurt, it feels like someone died.  I am not sure what to make of it.  I know, heck, we all know that the Celtics will whip the Bulls.  Let's just say the series goes 5 games, or maybe even six.  That would be about two weeks from today to rest that knee.  The Celtics also can beat the Magic without Kevin Garnett (they already have).  Believe it or not, and this sounds crazy, Big Baby Glen Davis and Leon Powe both play Dwight Howard well.  They will foul a lot, howver, they seem to do a fine job.  Dwight is going to get his, but he wont have fun.  The Celtics have beat the Magic when Healthy, and the Magic are not healthy, which they are not, the Celtics win this series in six.  That is about 4 weeks of rest for KG, so when they play the Cavs, he could go.  Heck, if it works out this way, I know he will go.  If he has to play with an Iron cast, he will play against the Cavs.  There is still room for a little optimism here.

LET'S GO CELTICS!

It's going to be interesting to see how the Celtics respond if KG is out for the entire postseason. He's a big part of their gameplan.

As a Cavaliers fan, I don't like this one bit.  All year I've heard these loser Celtic fans talk about raising another banner this year, and this just gives them an out.  "Well, if we had KG...."

I was looking forward to the Cavs beating the snot out of this team of old-timers.

I really hate to see KG not playing cause he is such a gr8 person.  From the Chicago Bulls side, things just got a whole lot easier.  This will really hurt there starting lineup but more so there depth off the bench.  The Bulls have been playing short handed ever since Luol Deng got hurt and that has helped them establish a playoff ready rotation.  I originally had boston winning in 6 now it wouldn't suprise me it it goes 7 and the bulls push them to the final buzzer.

It's kind of like the feeling you had about the Patriots back in September.... the "this totally sucks now feeling."
