McGrady on the move?

Posted on: June 25, 2009 11:04 am
The Rockets have been fielding plenty of inquiries about oft-injured former All-Star Tracy McGrady, whose $23.2 million expiring contract is attractive to teams looking to clear cap space for 2010.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey told the Houston Chronicle that teams have been "very aggressive" in their pursuit of McGrady, and unlike last summer, Morey is listening intently. One such scenario floated by the New York Post, has McGrady, Aaron Brooks, and Carl Landry going to Phoenix for Stoudemire and Leandro Barbosa. That's a dubious one, considering the Suns' long-held reluctance to trade Barbosa. But with Phoenix in fire-sale mode, everything appears to be on the table.

One team known to have discussed McGrady is the Knicks, whose stated plan since Donnie Walsh took over as team president has been to get the financial books in order for 2010. "They have interest," a person with knowledge of the McGrady discussions said.

Stoudemire's situation is muddled by the fact that he has a termination option in his contract after next season. Any team acquiring him would want assurances that Stoudemire would sign an extension this summer in exchange for waiving the termination clause. To this point, according to a source, Stoudemire's representation has not been brought into any trade discussions involving the four-time All-Star.

McGrady on the move?

Exactly what I think...  Brooks showed what he brings to the table in the NBA...  Might be better off moving someone else without the potential....

McGrady on the move?

I don't get why all the hate for McGrady. You Houston people get a little taste of the 2nd round of the playoffs and it is off with McGrady's head. Well here is a question I have for you... How many playoff games have Yao and McGrady played together? Also all of you who think McGrady has to perform like he did in Orlando to be the player you deserve are retarded. The Rockets have built up a nice core around him that, if he is in Houston next season, will allow him to do less and not put all the pressure on his shoulders. McGrady is a difference maker and honestly I hope he doesn't get traded away, and comes back 100% to the Rockets and shut up all you a$$ clowns who think he is washed up. Oh and to the idoit that thinks a team with Iverson on it does better when Iverson is not playing....WOW you my friend need your head checked. Last time I checked the Pistons were swept in the playoffs, and if you are refering to the Nuggets being better without Iverson, well to that I would say Iverson was not right for the team. He needs to be able to play off the ball, which he did basically his whole stint in Philadelphia, which is why he won and MVP, and reached the NBA FINALS. Some people just piss and moan to hear themselves whine. Educate yourselves before talking out of your a$$!

McGrady on the move?

Thank you.  Finally, there's a poster who gets it.  This is about cap space for next year and the 23 mil contract Mcgrady has that will be expiring at an opportune time.  It is nothing to do with McGrady being washed-up, a choker, or being injury prone.   It seems as if 99% of posters just seem to want to see themselves type.  Good post, I am glad someone did it.  I thought I would have to until I saw this one.

McGrady on the move?

I think that the Suns would want to see a bigger return for Stoudemire. While Brooks is good, Barbosa brings a similar skillset. If somehow this rumor were true, and it is doubtful, it would be a steal for the Rockets and would catapult them into the top 3. Two weeks ago the Suns were talking Al Jefferson for Stoudemire and now they would want to pick up McGrady? It just doesnt make sense even as a salary dump.

McGrady on the move?

Well said. The only reason that anyone wants him is because of his huge expiring contract.

McGrady on the move?

A Suns source says that this rumor isn't true. No talks with Houston, but teams have been calling about J-Rich. They also said that there is a possibility of the Suns trading Wallace to the Hornets for Chandler.

McGrady on the move?

This time of year, there are always rumors flying around. If this one has any validity,I think Houston is thinking about bringing in Amare because he fills the need of a guy that can score and can slide to the 5 when Yao is out.The problem is if they trade Brooks, who is going to run the point?Lowry seemed to get them in their offense o.k.,but is not the outside threat that Brooks can be.Plus,if Amare is not the answer,or if he walks nextr year, then Houston is without Brooks,Landry,Amare,Mcgrady, and possibly Yao.(Yao can opt out next year)

You wouldn't if his contarct was expiring after 1 season and you had 20 million in cap money to go after Lebron James
