Amare talks heating up; Minny dealing?

Discussions between the Suns and Warriors about a trade that would send Amare Stoudemire to Golden State were advancing Thursday night, two people familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com.

Key components of the deal were still coming into focus, but both people -- one a rival executive and the other a person with knowledge of the Warriors' plans -- said the talks were serious enough for contract negotiations between Stoudemire and the Warriors to commence.

A trade sending Stoudemire to the Warriors would explain Golden State's selection of yet another combo guard, leaving open the possibility that new GM Larry Riley selected Stephen Curry for the Suns.

UPDATE: However, contrary to logic, another executive said the Warriors are keeping Curry. The pieces going to Phoenix, the executive said, would be Andris Biedrins, Marco Belinelli, and Brandan Wright. The deal can't go through until July 1, and Stoudemire needs to agree to a contract extension with Golden State, which can't be signed until July 8.

In another possible resolution to a curious draft night development, an Eastern Conference GM said there was growing belief among team executives that the Timberwolves were looking to trade one of the two point guards they selected with the fifth and sixth picks. Speculation immediately centered around the Knicks, although this executive was not familiar with a scenario that would send a package including No. 8 pick Jordan Hill to Minnesota for Rubio. More on that as it evolves.

UPDATE: A high-level source familiar with the organizational strategy of both the Knicks and Timberwolves has told CBSSports.com that Rubio is staying in Minnesota and Hill in New York. T-Wolves GM David Kahn could not be higher on Rubio, and the Knicks' brass loves Hill for the interior toughness he will bring. The Rubio-to-New York speculation isn't true.

UPDATE: Or at least it's not true from the standpoint of it actually happening. Rubio's agent, Dan Fegan, would like it to be true. But Kahn is holding his ground and holding onto Rubio, setting up a showdown with a player who could opt to stay in Spain for a couple of years rather than freeze his culito off in Minnesota.

warriors please dont do something stupid

the warriors are a young team that got the best shooter to come out in years why do you trade 3 or 4 players for amare? and thats 4 talented players that are starting to come into their own. for a guy with bum knee's......no way....he is  a beast but there are some pretty good free agents available this summer....odoms, ariza come to mind and now that the magic have vince carter ....turk might be available too. a small forward who can pass and shoot hmmmmmm.  that s adding  to a team not subtracting...... no way you make this trade ......so nellie can win now and mortgage the future of the warriors!  sounds like that idiot Rowland has something to do with this.  trade Rowland or just fire the guy

Seriously?  If Curry is included in that deal (and I highly doubt it) the dubs would be getting fleeced.  Stad's a stud but not worth Curry and Biedrins.  I realize that the Warriors are not exactly a model franchise but please.

The "contrary to logic" statement is telling.  You sound like the obnoxious kid in class who thinks he is smarter than he really is.  Is it really such a stretch that an organization would draft the highest rated player on the board?

Suns will not trade Amare without getting Curry, so please... Kerr is a nightmare, but not that much of a nightmare. He knows if he makes this trade, he'd better do it while in San Diego with everything cleared out of Phoenix. He's already on the official Suns hate list, above San Antonio, Stern, and the Lakers.

BuckeyeBrutalty, actually it is Brandan Wright, and not Brendan Wright.  Apparently, neither of you two are accurate.  But I agree with you, Julian Wright is a lot further off than your typo.  Either way, I don't like the idea of picking up Amare at the expense of Andris Biedrins.  Marco Belinelli, now, that is another story, but from what I have read about Amare, and his damaged eyes, I don't like the smell of this one.

Thanks for the brilliant update Berger. Note to self: please learn the roster of both teams you are writing about before you write a blog. The Warriors would be sending Brendan Wright(PF drafted by Charlotte, sent rights on draft day to the Warriors, played at UNC), not Julian Wright (plays for the Hornets). Brendan? It's Brandon dummy.

Berger, Talk to Del Grande

His analysis is embarassing. He's not ready for the big show. Send him down. But I'm guessing he hacked into your system and posed as a real writer. To update you: someone named Del Grande (which means "I'm a very bad writer" in Spanish, and "whale vagina" in German) is posting sophomoric draft grades that reflect his man love for young prospects regardless of team needs.
