Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happens

Posted on: June 26, 2009 1:14 am
NEW YORK -- Talks between the Suns and Warriors that would send Amare Stoudemire to Golden State picked up momentum during the NBA draft Thursday night, but stalled to the point where one executive familiar with the situation said it "likely won't happen."

The sticking point, however, was not Golden State's No. 7 pick, Stephen Curry, who was not involved in the trade as it was being constructed Thursday night, the executive said.

If the teams revisit the discussion, there is plenty of time. Andris Biedrins, who was included in the deal being discussed along with Marco Belinelli and Brandan Wright, can't be traded until July 1 because he is a base-year compensation player. Further complicating the Suns' efforts to move Stoudemire is a termination clause in his contract after next season that would require an extension with his new team for him to waive it.

Bulls should offer Tyrus Thomas and Kirk Hinrich for Amare.

OR...the Suns stop trying to deal him to Golden State and open up trade talks with the Hawks.  Josh Smith, the rights to Josh Childress, and next year's unprotected first round draft pick for Amare.  Of course this is all contingent on him signing an extension so he doesn't leave after next year.

are you kidding me we have robert the idiot rowland in our front office.

this has been a giant game of misconception by don nelson. first they have monte tell everybody that he's the point guard tell everybody there are drafting hill, they then draft curry, re nig on the phoenix deal.

why would you trade 3 or 4 players to someone in your conference?  that could come back to haunt you for years to come!

we have 2 good players at every position we could run fresh legs at teams if nelson doent fall asleep on the bench and wear out his starters. yes we dont have that super star player but this team has alot of versatilty. the dark horse is anthony randolph if he devlops like everybody thinks he will look out. maybe nelson is lighting a fire under beitrins and wrights butt?

You are an idiot. NY doesn't control their "unprotected pick in 2010" because they already traded it!!! The Utah Jazz got it from Phoenix who originally got it in the deal for Stephan Marbury. You ought to consider thinking before you suggest such rediculous stuff.

Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happens

• Curry is a fine addition for the Warriors -- can obviously score and can pass (Bobby Knight thinks the best in college) and has great basketball IQ (lucky to have even been available at #7).

• Brandon Jennings can pass and create for others, has an "Ok" midrange shot, and a not-so-hot (ok, "very poor") 3pt shot -- but has a year of maturing under his belt at the pro level, great quickness, natural athleticism (without Curry's "polish"), and would seem suited for the run-and-gun small-ball game of Nelson.

• The Warriors, even without Curry, have the #1 and #4 leaders in 3pt% in the NBA (Morrow, Azubuike), a great mid-range shooter, penetrator and speedster (Ellis), and a young, consistent center (Biedrins) who rates among tops in FG% and Rebs. They have other capable 3-pt shooters in Jackson and Belinelli, and Maggette can drop in 20 a night. Randolph's grown an inch and added 20 lbs; 6'10" Wright "runs like a gazelle".

If the Warriors and Phoenix can't pull off a deal for Stoudamire -- even one involving Curry -- perhaps Milwaukee can, i.e. if the Bucks have for offering the player Phoenix wants: Stephen Curry. A "Plan B" for GS -- i.e. if unable to secure Stoudamire -- might be to "assist" Amare's leave of the Western Conference, without necessarily sacrificing total offensive production. Difficult though it may be to "let go" the coveted Curry, the fact is the Warriors already have lots of fire-power, and the athletic, speedy, quick Jennings -- unlike combo PG/SG college scoring-leader Curry -- could play the pure pass-first PG distributor role for Nelson that, ideally, would enhance the productivity of others. In any context of a Phoenix-GS Amare-deal-dead-end, GS's seeking an exchange of Curry-for-Jennings possibly could eventually yield Stoudamire in Milwaukee, Curry in Phoenix, and Jennings in GS. Seems there'd be at least some mutual interest for GS and Phoenix (if unable to pull-off a deal) in having Stoudamire end up off the roster of any intra-division rival.

Might Phoenix be willing and better-able to strike a Stoudamire deal with Milwaukee, if the Bucks had Curry as part of its offer?
Would the Warriors and/or Bucks be giving up too much in an exchange of Curry for Jennings?

Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happens

The Suns have always been my 2nd favorite team but if they trade Amare then every fan of theirs should riot.  The Suns have gone from the most entertaining team in the league that was just a whisper from the NBA Finals to a complete joke.  Terrible ownership and management the last several years have ruined this team.
All of the selling of draft picks, running off the coach, etc etc.  The list of boneheaded moves by the Suns is endless.

Wow! Seriously? Jordan Hill and Nate Robinso and a draft pick over Biendrins 12 pts 12 rebound guy Wright was starting before season ending injury and Belinelli a nice 3 pt threat? I don't believe you sais that... But I would not want this Amare trade to go down anyway... The Warrios will be a good team they had injuies from jt abput every player last year.. So with health I see them being a playoff team or at least 10 games over .500... I can't say the same thing about the N. Robinson led Knicks...
