Coach K Back for 2012 Olympics

Posted on: July 7, 2009 9:56 pm

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who guided Team USA to Olympic gold in Beijing last summer, has decided to accept an invitation to return for the 2010 world championships in Turkey and 2012 Olympics in London, CBSSports.com has confirmed.

The official announcement will come July 22, when Team USA opens a training camp in Las Vegas for players who did not participate in the 2008 Summer Games. Krzyzewski's decision was first reported by the Boston Globe and confirmed to CBSSports.com by a person close to the Duke coach.

Jerry Colangelo, managing director of USA Basketball, had sought a two-year commitment for '10 and '12 from Coach K and existing members of the Olympic team. He declined to confirm Krzyzewski's decision, but said on the phone, "When you have something very positive in place, you do everything you can to try to keep it going. So there’s a lot of reasons to keep everyone in place, and hopefully it works out that way."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^What the hell happened here, anyway I forgot about Melo as a reserve edging out probably Durant, because I think Granger already has a role with the team.

Coach K Back for 2012 Olympics

Gasol is not American and will play for Spain, as will Hedo for Turkey. I'd be absolutely stunned if Kobe comes back. He'd be going on 35 in 2012, and would be very unlikely for him to play after a long NBA season.  I think Coach K is the perfect guy for this job, and I'm glad to see him come back.  The starting lineup will very likely look like this, and should be enough to repeat as gold medalist(also keep in mind about injuries, and if one of the superstar players can't go).

Starters

PG Chris Paul: As for as being a facilitater who better than Chris Paul, he's unselfish and wants to win, he's also a very underrated defender for his size and is lethal in the passing lanes.

SG Dwayne Wade: No question in my mind this guy will be back and even better than last time.

SF Lebron James: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

PF Bosh: Can you name another Power Foward in the League who is American and not ancient better than Chris Bosh.

Dwight Howard: He will be the determining factor IMO, on whether the U.S. win easy or face turbulence, if this guy can become the offensive player he's capable of it's probably going to be unfair.

Reserves

PG Deron Williams: Chris and Deron will probably switch starting lineups positions spots depending on matchup and if Team USA is facing a bigger PG. Deron is definitely in the argument with CP3 for best in the league.

SG Brandon Roy possibly even Devin Harris

SF Danny Granger and Kevin Durant for his versatility he could possibly play PF in some games

PF Amare Stoudemire(If he doesn't play maybe David West or Rashard Lewis or possibly even the kid Blake Griffin mind get in.

C  Al Jefferson or Tyson Chandler(would be and Ideal backup for Howard because of his Length and Athleticism) if  Jefferson doesn't play or Chandler can't go and is not 100%. Somebody like Kendrick Perkins would fit the team.

You do know Pau Gasol plays for Spain's national team, right???  He won't play for Team USA.  Replace Gasol with Tim Duncan and that's a ridiculously strong team.  Gotta look at Brandon Roy over T-Mac (overrated replaced by a team oriented guy) and Deron Williams (who played great in Beijing).  Other than that, I agree with your selections.

And with your Honorable Mentions, Hedo Turkgalu plays for Croatia, I think...  Not the USA though...

I know why you picked those, you have no idea what you are talking about. How quickly everyone forgets the 6th man(Michael Redd). Plus some of these guys you're mentioning were on the dream team that didn't win gold. Hedo and Pau are not eligible for the U.S. team, Pau is spanish and Hedo is turkish. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Should coach K invite Grant Hill, Shaq and Scottie Pippen back to the team too while we're at it. Plus Jason Kidd was one of the reasons the team came away with gold last time, his leadership was a big reason they won. You're forgetting that quality.

You have a good roster but I have a few disagreements. T-Mac is not that great + he is injuy prone. You can't have a guy get hurt in the olympics so he is out. Rashard Lewis is an okay choice but he is the same size as Kevin Durant. Durant is a better player andhe is also a solid 3-pt shooter. He plays SF but if Lewis can play PF so can Durant so Lewis is out. And Pau Gasol plays for Spain So he is out. Here is my lineup.
