Coach K Back for 2012 Olympics

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who guided Team USA to Olympic gold in Beijing last summer, has decided to accept an invitation to return for the 2010 world championships in Turkey and 2012 Olympics in London, CBSSports.com has confirmed.

The official announcement will come July 22, when Team USA opens a training camp in Las Vegas for players who did not participate in the 2008 Summer Games. Krzyzewski's decision was first reported by the Boston Globe and confirmed to CBSSports.com by a person close to the Duke coach.

Jerry Colangelo, managing director of USA Basketball, had sought a two-year commitment for '10 and '12 from Coach K and existing members of the Olympic team. He declined to confirm Krzyzewski's decision, but said on the phone, "When you have something very positive in place, you do everything you can to try to keep it going. So there’s a lot of reasons to keep everyone in place, and hopefully it works out that way."

Coach K Back for 2012 Olympics

I think Coach K is great for the US in the Olympics, but that must sure be a grind for him, coaching an elite college team and the US Olympic team. My hat is off to him. I'm definitely no Duke fan, but I admire the fact that he is willing to work so hard for USA Basketball. I hope he doesn't run out of gas...

My opin is that this is good for USA basketball, maybe not so good for Duke basketball. Unfortunately, it might hasten Coach K's retirement. Anyone else?

Gasol won't be playing for the US in the Olympics. I think he plays for Spain?

Ummm....    Turk and Gasol are not from the USA buddy, so your team is not so legitimate

Burritos,

Gasol plays for the Spanish national team.  Also, I don't think Kobe will play on the next team.  I know he's got a great relationship with Coach K, but he's over 30 now and needs to be more concerned with staying healthy and playing less not more.  I agree on CP3 and D. Rose, but what about Deron Williams.  Lebron and D-Wade should be back along with Carmelo, Bosh, and Howard.  I think they field a 12 man team so here is who I think should be on the team.

Starters

PG.  Deron Williams, just as effective a playmaker as Chris Paul but a better scorer, shooter, and defender.
SG.  D. Wade - this is a no brainer
SF.  LBJ - Same as Wade
PF.  Carmelo Anthony - Coach K showed at the Olympics that he prefers the smaller lineup so he can get Carmelo and LBJ on the floor
C.   D. Howard - another easy pick

The bench is where we really differ:

CP3. Coach K will rotate D. Will and CP3 as the starting PG
Kevin Durant - If not for the star power listed above would be a starter.  Scoring machine.
Brandon Roy -  Has the versatility Coach K craves
Chris Bosh - Good but not great player.  Needs to leave Toronto to be a household name.
Lamarcus Aldridge - Big men are at a premium and he is one of the best out of the young ones
Derrick Rose - He's deserving but I don't know if Coach K will carry 3 PG's especially since he has Wade and LBJ to facilitate also.
A. Stoudemire, David Lee, or Andrew Bynum - for depth not very many decent bigs to choose from.  My guess is David Lee plays hard and doesn't have the ego of Stoudemire, though Amare is clearly better.

This team also lacks an outside shooter, but I don't know who'd they go with.  Maybe Stephen Curry after a couple years if he turns out to be any good.

Wow, ummm I'm pretty sure Gasol plays for Spain in the Olympics not the USA.  "Turkgalu" also will not be showing up on a USA roster.

As far as the American players, I don't disagree with most of it except McGrady doesn't have the health to make this commitment nor has his play (or lack their of) for 3 yrs now merit it.  And Deron Williams will absolutely be on the team with CP3.  Kenyon Martin and all 3 Celtics would decline to play at their age.

Glad to hear Gay is now a Great Player.

Yes, we might wonder why you picked them! I think you left off some other real good foreign players.

That's a great idea. The USA squad will be great next year. Here is my ideal team.

PG- Chris Paul, Derrick Rose
SG- Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Tracy McGrady
SF- LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant
PF- Rashard Lewis, Chris Bosh
C- Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol

Some of you might wonder why I picked these so here are my ideas why.

PG's- CP3 is amazing. No doubt about it. D-Rose is awesome too.

SG's- Very ideal to have Kobe and D-Wade. T-Mac will recover from his injury and excell next season.

SF- Lebron is the best player in the NBA. No doubt about that. Melo is a great player most of the time, and Durant would be better if he was on a good team.

PF- Lewis is a great shooter and an inside force. Bosh is.. well awesome.

C- Howard is the best center in the NBA. Nothing you can do about it. Gasol proved himself after he got traded from my hometown Grizz.

Honorable Mention:

Jameer Nelson- Great PG who  played pretty good in the Finals injured.

Hedo Turkgalu- Playing on the Raptors won't matter, Turk is awesome

Rudy Gay- Great player. End of discussion. Just lost to Durant for the final forward spot.

Kenyon Martin- Defensive Force

Kevin Garnett- Defensive force, but has to recover from injury

Paul Pierce- Great player all around but I think he will have a down year.

Ray Allen- He will JUST BARELY lose to T-Mac (who will have a monster season) for the final SG spot

Micheal Beasley- Should do better now a second year player

OJ Mayo- See Micheal Beasley

Big for USA basketball. Coach K obviously installed a bunch into those guys as we saw, each "final 4" team was led by an olympian. Melo, Lequit, Kobe, Dwight Howard. We saw DWADE come back as a top 2 player alongside Kobe Bryant.

On to free agency Ken, is there any chance Orlando can land Chris Andersen? I don't even know if its talked about, but he's a guy that can play 3/4 and provide a home spark for a team that seems to come out flat a lot.
