Odom chooses Lakers (UPDATE)

Lamar Odom is doing the only thing that makes sense.

Returning to the Lakers.

All of this indecision for nothing.

UPDATE: The Lakers confirmed Thursday that they've reached an agreement with Odom and hope to finalize it in the next couple of days. Neither the Lakers nor Odom's agent, Jeff Schwartz, would comment on the details. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CBSSports.com that Odom's teammates have been informed that the 6-10 forward isn't going anywhere, and a second source placed the total value of the four-year deal at significantly more than the mid-level exception but less than $33 million with the fourth-year team option factored in.

Either way, that's less than the Lakers originally offered, however -- a sign of just how much Odom wanted to stay with the Lakers. The cap-strapped Heat are believed to have offered a five-year deal starting at the mid-level exception of $5.9 million, giving Odom the ability to opt out after the fourth year.

Odom, 29, was one of the most integral pieces in the Lakers' championship run last season, and GM Mitch Kupchak prioritized his prized sixth man over fellow free agent starter Trevor Ariza. Odom's decision to turn down aggressive overtures from Miami Heat president Pat Riley and reigning scoring champion Dwyane Wade ended a month-long saga in which the Lakers pulled their initial offer off the table once Odom's agent began shopping it to other teams. Riley and Wade met personally with Odom on Monday, but couldn't close the deal.

UPDATE: The Lakers started the offseason with a flourish, coming out of nowhere to sign free agent Ron Artest when it became obvious that Ariza wanted more than market value -- the mid-level exception -- to stay in L.A. Lakers owner Jerry Buss let Ariza walk, but wasn't going to give up so easily on Odom. At various times this summer, teammates Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher had publicly lobbied for Odom to re-sign. It was perhaps a sign that even they weren't sure how this was going to end even though Odom had stated during the Finals that he had no intention of leaving the Lakers unless he received an offer he couldn't refuse.

That offer wasn't going to come from Miami, a team that is over the cap and probably still would've been another piece away from championship contention even if it had landed Odom. Playing with Wade would've satisfied one of Odom's requirements; he's never wanted to be a No. 1 option on his team. But with the Lakers, Odom can dominate for short spurts off the bench, taking advantage of mismatches against second units. His versatility -- playing on the perimeter and under the basket, defending small forwards and centers -- will be crucial to the Lakers staying on top in the West given the improvements made this summer by their competitors, most notably the Spurs.

And remember what Artest said the day he agreed to terms with the Lakers. One of the first points he made was that he's known Odom since both were teen-agers playing on the playgrounds of Queens and AAU tournaments. Artest has done a lot of crazy stuff in his career, but I always believed that he wouldn't have jumped quite so quickly at the Lakers' offer had he believed there was even a slim chance Odom would be leaving.

Where does this leave the Heat? Well, there is always Carlos Boozer, who almost certainly will be dealt before the February trade deadline. Miami still has a $4 million trade exception it acquired in the Jermaine O'Neal trade. If not Boozer, Miami will have some cap flexibility next summer to surround Wade with the championship-level talent he so desperately desires. The problem is, if Wade doesn't sign an extension before then, he'll be fielding free agent offers, too.

Odom chooses Lakers (UPDATE)

Laughinghey blueblood1957 and all the other dumb ass fakers fans your you're (fixed some of "your" third grade grammar for you... "you're" welcome) just in denial, hopefully egg falls on your face this year, kobe breaks his ankle, artest goes in the crowd because someone called him a name, odom chokes on a twizzler and all can suck balls
Awwwwwwwww... Snippy dippy do sounds a bit onry, as well as disturbed.

"You're" just a sad sad person. A name caller, who just can't stand the fact that "your" team, whatever team that may be can't muster it up to win the title.

Actually, "you're" a faker, because we can't even determine what team(s) you root for (not on your profile... you chickensh..). We can presume that you pull (you probably do a lot of pulling ) for the Cavaliers. In that case, no wonder "you're" angry. After annointing Lebron James king, he actually turned out to be a queen when the going got tough. Too bad, because "you're" going to see more of that next year from LeBrick, as expectations grow, he runs into the lane, only to find a behemoth of unmovable cement standing there blocking his way. Laughing

If "you're" not a Cavs fan, please let us know, so we can blast whatever choker team you clearly must follow... and "pull" for.
Now quit wishing ill upon NBA stars you little whiner crybaby, and crawl back under that rock you came from. And while "you're" at it, take some kind of tranquilizer. Maybe that'll give you a dose of reality... Whiner, crybaby!!

As a side note... Didn't you say "your" last post was "your" final post? Why not do us all a favor, and make it so!!Laughing

Sweet 16 in 2010.

Peace.

Odom chooses Lakers (UPDATE)

okay last post you idiots the reason i think the NBA is fixed and will always be fixed in one name Tim Donahue who all you idiots know was convicted of fixing outcomes of basketball games, he was the first to get caught and if you think he is the only one not doing it then you are all dumber than i thought, it is a fixed league by refs and a commish, you will always regardless of talent have your big name teams in the finals because they need TV, REVENUE, EXPOSURE, hell why do you think that the salary cap is going down almost 8 million next year because no one watches it you idiots, have fun rooting for what maybe 5 teams that can make it to the finals but only the NBA darling winning it The Fakers, at least in the NFL anyone can make it to the big game because they are not in financial trouble like the cash strapped NBA, i mean how can you be a fan of Minnesota, Memphis, golden state, Toronto, new Orleans, Charlotte, when you know you have no chance or prayer of ever getting to a NBA finals in a fixed league,   PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Tim (whatever his name is... but I know it's not Donahue) was convicted of what? Affecting the scores of his games for his benefit. Not the NBA's. Not David Stern's. But Tim's benefit. All you have are feelings, supposition, and innuendo there snippy. So I ask, where's the proof, other than the hurt feelings of a fan of a team that's never won anything? Give me the hard copy baby. But you can't, because all you have are your whacky conspiracy theories that get shot down every time a small market team makes it to the Finals, much less wins the Finals; or every time a Finals series goes five games rather than six or seven. Explain to me please the excellent marketing ploy on Stern's part that accentuates the benefit of throwing away two games worth of revenue in order to "fix" the Finals so the Lakers win in five. You can't do that either, because it's nonsensical. That alone blows up your theory. Explain please, if Stern and the NBA are sooooo good at fixing the outcome, why he deemed that Lebron and the Cavaliers should not make it to the Finals against Kobe and the Lakers. You know that matchup don't you? The one that everybody was drooling over. The one that would have made money hand over fist!! Yeah, Explain that one to me please.

But then you beg another question. We all know about the 1919 Black Sox scandal. We know those guys fixed games. We know Pete Rose bet on games... If not the Reds, at least other teams. So with that actual proof and admissions I might  add, I guess I'm to assume that those sports are fixed also? Using your inane logic of an actual proven TWO facts, not just one, I have no choice but to make that assumption.

And what you should do is keep calling people names. That will really encourage them to listen to your sophomoric logic. Logic based on no facts, but only supposition. Logic based on one man convicted of helping only himself.  Logic based on absolutley no logic, or you could never make this statement: you will always regardless of talent have your big name teams in the finals because they need TV, REVENUE, EXPOSURE; and then give a coherent explanantion as to why last year the series went only six games, and this year five games, and any other year there is a sweep or anything less than seven games, or any year the Spurs make it, or the Cavs, or the Magic, and on, and on, and on!! Why the heck the Magic even advanced that far?

Alllllllllll the names you're calling everybody else... Well, you just might want to tape a few of those to your forehead (make sure you write them backwards), and then take a look in the mirror.

Then ask yourself those questions again.

Sweet 16 in 2010.

Peace.

Odom chooses Lakers (UPDATE)

"Whatever happened to objectivity in journalism? Anyone who cannot see that Ken Berger is a Lakers fan is pretty stupid. Every reference he makes to the Lakers shows he is just another bandwagon Kobe loving Lakers fan who somehow got a job for a major sports site. Seriously, "the only thing that makes sense."? Pretty sure the Heat would be a great team with Odom actually. "

 - Actually you complete fool, it is by far the only thing that makes sense. You think Odom has a better situation in LA or in MIAMI, umm gee any FOOL could tell you that. Oh and would the lakers be better off with or without him, again any FOOL can tell you that,  That is why it makes the most sense for BOTH sides. Next!
