Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Posted on: September 9, 2009 3:17 pm

This from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News: The latest piece of the LeBron-to-New York puzzle has the Knicks' parent company, Cablevision, ready to give LeBron James his own channel as part of a free-agent package to lure him to the Knicks in 2010.

It's all grist for the rumor mill at this point, as Isola points out. But such a plan would present an interesting twist in terms of how the value of such a channel would circumvent NBA salary cap rules. On one level, it would be no different than marketing income that teams in large cities can use to lure free agents. On the other hand, it's not fair that a team that also happens to own an entire cable system serving nearly 3 million residents in one of the largest suburban areas in the nation would be able to dangle that asset as extra compensation not governed by the cap.

I live in Queens -- not Long Island, which is Cablevision's stronghold -- so fortunately I won't be subjected to WLBJ-TV if and when it hits the airwaves. If there are any Cablevision customers out there, riddle me this: What's currently on channel 23?

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

 money isnt everything

Rg1112002,

I stopped reading right there. You should have waited until the end of your post to drop that stupid bomb you dropped.  Money IS everything... end of story. Sure, not for some of the small time NBA players who might live a fairly modest life, but for the face of the league,,, for a guy like Lebron MONEY IS EVERYTHING... you'll see...  it'll be primetime for him baby... either new york or Miami with Dwade but no chance he stays in Cleveland. Why can't you guys understand business???

I'm NOT a knicks fan... I don't even like the Knicks at all.... but I'm a smart guy, a realist that understands business... but you don't..

And to the guy before you that said Lebron expects to make Arod money before he wins anything... so what???? What do you people insist on thinking that money and winning go hand in hand????  They have nothing to do with eachother when you're a Lebron, a Jordan, a Kobe or a Shaq... I know you'll say everybody else I mentioned won championships but even if they wouldn't have they still would have made a kings ransom playing and in endorsements...  their salaries and endorsements were not tied into their success on the court...

Never forget this... with the only exception being your health.... MONEY IS EVERYTHING.... you'll be much more successful in life if you understand it...

Knicks fans kill me, why would THE KING leave Cleveland, for money? money isnt everything, players who play the game want to win, and win rings, who wants to come to a team and rebuild all over again, basketball is about good players and chemistry, New York sorry you just dont have neither one of these things required to win a Championship, Lebron will make his legacy by winning a championship in Cleveland will go down as one of the greatest players to take a city from rags to riches, like Jordon did Chicago, Times are changing what used to be the head is now the tail, Cleveland is more exciting than ever, sorry New Yorkers but your TV deals just aint gone cut it, Helloooo, Lebron can be on TV anytime he gets ready, besides who wants camera's all in there face everyday, Lebron is from th AK but Cleveland and Akron are one.

I am by NO MEANS a Labron or a Knicks fan.  Can't really stand either one.  But this is a classic example of greed, pure and simple, greed.  He wants to be the highest paid player, yes, just like ARod, and hasn't won anything team wise.  This past year was a perfect example, he made an attempt to be the "team player" during the 82 game schedule, but as soon as the playoffs started it was gie me the ball and stand and watch and he took over.  He tried to take over.  He learned, or shold have, that he also needs a team around him and not just to stand and watch.  He'll go to the Knicks for the money, and he'll loose there, everyone knows it.  Then towards his later years he'll demand a trade to a contender becuase his resume won't be complete with out a Ring, just ask Charles, Dan, and - oh yeah ARod.

LEBRON WILL NOT LEAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER TEAM

Dude.  The so called talent surrounding him is no better then the Knicks, Pistons, Grizzlies, etc.   Put Lebron on my team the Pistons and we contend in that conference. Actually surrounding him with Prince, Stuckey, Hamilton, ben gordon and charlie villanueva is MUCH better then what he has now.. the Pistons would have a much much better chance at winning it all with Lebron then Cleveland does...

But of course, I'm off my knees now because I know that even though we can make the right moves to have the cap space available Lebron will never sign with Detroit.  There are no more endorsements here then there is in Cleveland....

Honestly. Does anybody except for Cleveland fans on these boards believe the 5 players I named on the Pistons above aren't better then Cleveland's supporting cast??  Puuuleaase !!!!

"Magically transform Knicks into title contender is sorely mistaken"  HaHaHaHa.  He transformed a lineup of Delonte West, Mo Williams, Sideshow Bob and old washed plodders Ben Wallace and Z into title contenders.  That team might be worse than NY's!  And thats your starting lineup in 2010. 1.Williams 2.West 3.Maybe you will get Wilson Chandler in sign in trade with Knicks(ahahaha)4.JJ hickson 5.SideShow Flop  Maybe you will win the lottery in 2011.  What a terrible orginazation. They have the best young player in the NBA and surround him with crap.  Oh wait Shaq.  Maybe its been proven since '06 he is more liabilty than help.  Ahahaha.  Kg, Sheed ,Dwight Howard will run circles on his fat slow butt.  And what does it say about your city when its "hometown boy" is debating to leave.  Ahahahahahahaha!!!!  2nd round KO and see in NY.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

LOOK, it is a hard job living in Cleveland, and hoping to win anything resembling a championship is controlled by the worst luck in the history of professional sports.
SO, when I say HEY, CHRIS BERMAN PICKED THE BROWNS OVER MINNY VIKINGS this week, my excitement level is high!

THE CAVS signed Shaq, Leon Powe, Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, Andy Varejo, and Danny Green (Tarheels 2nd rd)--with LEBRON at Super-Star, Mo Williams, Delonte West, Booby Gibson, Big-Z, and JJ Hickson, we have gotten bigger AND BETTER--it will be a good year.

I NEED SOME CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE I DIE--BACK IN THE 80'S THE BROWNS WERE RIGHT THERE...thats all for now...

THE BROWNS TOWN CLOWN !!

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Do you happen to remember what the Cavs were pre Lebron? They were the Knicks of now. LeBron lures free agents, so yes I'd have to say he could turn the Knicks or any team in the NBA into a title contender.

If I were a New York fan I would demand that Lebron average 60 points a game or he gets fined $10,000 per game he fails to do so.  Sorry Wilt.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Mikeee dude,

Listen. I've kinda screwed around in this thread for too long.. let me spell it out from you guys. Take this from an outsider since I live in Canada and I'm the farthest thing from a Lebron fan... and I am not a fan of either the knicks or Cavs... let me spell it out clearly..

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT LEBRON IS A CAVALIER AFTER THIS SEASON COMING UP.. ZERO CHANCE.. END OF STORY....

I don't know how else to put it !!  Lebron is, like many others stars of his caliber and egomaniac.  The guy will NEVER choose Cleveland over a city like New York.... EVER !!!!!

QUIT TALKING CRAP.... IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.. THIS IS LEBRON'S LAST YEAR IN CLEVELAND... NO CHANCE, NO WAY HE RE-SIGNS !!!!!!!!!!!

IF CLEVELAND'S BRASS HAD A BRAIN, THEY WOULD HAVE TRADED THE GUY A YEAR AGO GIVING SOMEBODY THE CHANCE TO TRADE FOR HIM AND HAVE HIM FOR 2 SEASONS.

With what they COULD have received, they quite possibly could have become a contender a whole lot faster then you think... but now they are screwed ... dead in the water.....

THEY GET NOTHING FOR LEBRON NOW... NOTHING.. ZILCH,,, ZERO !!!
