Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Posted on: September 9, 2009 3:17 pm

This from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News: The latest piece of the LeBron-to-New York puzzle has the Knicks' parent company, Cablevision, ready to give LeBron James his own channel as part of a free-agent package to lure him to the Knicks in 2010.

It's all grist for the rumor mill at this point, as Isola points out. But such a plan would present an interesting twist in terms of how the value of such a channel would circumvent NBA salary cap rules. On one level, it would be no different than marketing income that teams in large cities can use to lure free agents. On the other hand, it's not fair that a team that also happens to own an entire cable system serving nearly 3 million residents in one of the largest suburban areas in the nation would be able to dangle that asset as extra compensation not governed by the cap.

I live in Queens -- not Long Island, which is Cablevision's stronghold -- so fortunately I won't be subjected to WLBJ-TV if and when it hits the airwaves. If there are any Cablevision customers out there, riddle me this: What's currently on channel 23?

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Not a chance he will be a Knick.  A Net is MUCH MUCH MUCH more likely.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

quickbr,

I live in CANADA... far far away from New York. Actually, I've never even been to New York. But I'm a smart guy with an education, a major in marketing and I can read.  And I KNOW that New York is the place to be if you're somebody that wants to make the most money possible.

I don't care what field you're in.... it's the place to be.  And as far as sports endorsements go, you are 100 percent correct sir !!

LEBRON WOULD BE A FOOL NOT TO GO TO NEW YORK.. BUT... we know he's not a fool.. he'll go to New York.. MAYBE MIAMI????? That's a longshot but if Wade stays then Miami would be second best if he was a fool... but he's not a fool.. he'll be a knick.....

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Why don't we just give the New York Knicks 5x the salary cap of every other team, similar to what the Yankees can do?  New York is automatically entitled to have the best team in every sport.  No other teams should even bother to show up.  Let's just give all the trophies to New York RIGHT NOW and stop the injustice!   Any player who is any good would be a FOOL not to come to New York.   If they are not in New York, no one will ever give them endorsements and no one will ever know about them or buy anything with their name on it.   Blah blah blah.

This sense of entitlement by so many of the New York fans is ludicrous and condescending.  But go ahead and fantacize if it makes you feel better.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Talk about idiocy...attacking the greatest and most recognized sports franchise in the known universe - the NEW YORK YANKEES.... nevermind. The Knicks would LOVE LeBron in 41 MSG games per season. Who wouldn't ?? A 24 hour, all LeBron channel would be great for endorsements and Mr. Dolan can deliver THAT perk quite easily. Funny thing though, as much of a difference as a single player can make on the basketball floor... Cleveland didn't WIN IT ALL. Mr James even came across as bit of a poor sport for his childish behavior after his last game. Another funny thing... as much of a doormat franchise as the Knicks have resembled in recent seasons, the New York Knicks have a CHAMPIONSHIP in their history ( Cleveland has how many ?? ). The NY team even played some NBA basketball during last season and looked much improved compared to the season before. Somehow, I think that IF Donnie Walsh and Coach "D'An" continue the forward progress this upcoming season, New York will look a lot better to every free agent AND salary cap space WILL NOT be an issue as it was under that bungler Isiah Thomas. May God help college basketball. LeBron will do WHATEVER LeBron thinks is best for LeBron and the good people of Ohio will just have to sit back and consider suicide if ( WHEN ) LeBron signs on to another roster. Hhhmmm... The James Restroom Report... with Rush Limbaugh as the anchor. I like it.

LeBron has no desire to play for a loser and Dolan's are losers no mater if it is James Dolan and the Knicks or Uncle Larry Dolan and his Cleveland Indians (which he destroyed) they are terrible owners. They tear down teams and mistreat players there is just no way LeBron leaves a class owner like Dan Gilbert  or a  GM  like Danny Ferry for a terrible owner and a ego trip (own channel). It's just not LeBron's way give it up no matter how many times you write fake stories about it there is just no way the Knicks get Lebron.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

Pretty funny, but if anything, Cleveland should have worked out the intro with Halle Berry being that she's from Cleveland.  Bedford High School.  Other notable alums, Chris Chambers and Lee Evans of the Chargers and Bills respectively.

He will want to stay in Cleveland to win a championship, Knicks are far from that

Cleveland minus Lebron IS what the Knicks are right now ... if you guys honestly think that Cleveland would win more then 30 or 35 games without Lebron then you are absolutley nuts !!

You're a baffoon, End of Story. He will want to stay in Cleveland to win a championship, Knicks are far from that. To say you or I know what Lebron is thinking makes us both baffoons. So pipe down from your chair, you know nothing if anything at all.

Could Knicks give LeBron his own channel?

This is opening a door that the NBA should not allow to be cracked.  What's next?  The Rockets working out a deal with NASA to offer LeBron a seat on the space shuttle?  Or how about the Pistons working out an introduction for LeBron with Halle Barry, one of the world's greatest black beauties.  Maybe the Oklahoma Hornets could offer him a few oil wells to go with his millions.  Perhaps the Orlando Magic could buy p a piece of Disney World and offer it up as LeBron Land.  Where will it all stop?  This is nuts!  The guy is a very talented player, but ticket prices have soared to put games out of reach for the average family.  Are we going to drive them up to where only the elite and very rich can afford to go to games?  That is what this looks like to me.
