NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

NEW YORK -- The NBA is reviewing a confrontation between point guards Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul after Sunday night's game between the Celtics and Hornets, CBSSports.com has learned.

Each player got a technical foul after a tussle under the basket, then they exchanged words after the final buzzer and had to be separated. Paul made an unsuccessful attempt to finish the discussion with Rondo in the Celtics' locker room afterward. Boston won 97-87.

Hornets coach Byron Scott said before his team faced the Knicks Monday night that he hadn't addressed the matter with Paul and didn't believe he was out of line.

"The only thing I heard Chris say after the game as we were walking off was, 'He's going to respect me as a man,'" Scott said. "I don't know what Rondo said, but obviously Chris took exception to it. But I didn't ask him about it or really think much about it after that."

Each player could be subject to a fine, depending on the league office's ruling.

UPDATE: After the Hornets lost to the Knicks 117-111, Paul wouldn't discuss what Rondo said to him that made him so irate. "That’s over and done with," he said. As for the league's decision to review the matter, Paul said, "I’ll wait until somebody says something to me. First I heard of that."

There's a chance Paul could be the subject of a league disciplinary review for the second straight game. During a scramble for a loose ball Monday night, Paul got tangled up with the Knicks' Al Harrington, who got up rubbing his head as though Paul had punched him. Replays showed Paul at one point flailing his arms, but Paul said afterward he didn't throw any punches. Harrington said his head had collided with Paul's knee.

“He didn’t punch," Harrington said. "When I dove, his knee . . . my head hit his knee. He might have slipped a couple of jabs in there, but it didn’t affect me. I fight in the summer so it’s all good. ... It was nothing. It’s nothing anybody should review or anything like that.”

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

No he was drafted by a not very good Celtics team.  Then Danny Ainge built the team into a championship team.  Rondo has improved every year and is now a top 5 point guard.  Lucky?  Then I guess Kobe is lucky to be on the lakers.  I guess Lebron is lucky to be on the Cavs.  Ohh that is right, they were drafted by those teams...nothing to do with luck. Kobe wasn't drafted by the Lakers.

Fighting and basketball don't mix, I say suspend both their asses and send a message that resonates throughout the entire league: if you fight during a game we will suspend your ass. Period. End of story. Word to your mother Tongue out

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

You are SO RIGHT about that "fight" between him and Hinrich. He was such a badass when he came from behind him and grabbed his arm and threw him into the scorers table. And then when HInrich was actually face to face with him and wanted to do something about it, the little pussy ran away. And for your information, the skinny rat would get laid out and put to sleep by CP3.

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

Nit picking.  Yeah he was drafted by Phoenix - and traded immediately to Boston (along with one other player) for a draft pick and cash.
So Boston didn't do the official pick.  But he was the player they wanted on draft day.
Whether Rondo is 3rd best or 5th best or whatever is a silly argument.  He is clearly playing at an elite level.  Look past the pts scored column and instead at how many assists, rebounds & steals he generates each minute he is on the court.  One thing that will hurt his accumulated numbers is, like everyone else on the Celtics he will probably not get enough minutes to lead in very many categories.  They are just too deep of a team.

He is elite.  He is arguably the third best point guard in the league.  Did you see him play in the playoffs last season?  Have you seen the start of this season?  YOu cannot watch those games and think he is a terrible player.  You cannot watch those games and not see a special player.  You are thinking as a fan.  THere isn't another player outside of Paul and Williams that you would rather have than Rondo at the point.  He is 23 and very very very good
as far as him being the 3rd best and not wanting another pg outside of williams and rondo....it depends on how the team is built. nash and parker are better players right now. rondo is just a more valueble asset in the long term because of age. and give russell westbrook a couple years in the nba and he'll be just as good as rondo.

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

When Paul acts like a man he will get respected as a man. Right now he is a frustrated young dude that knows the Hornets are going anywhere. He will be out of Charlotte as soon as he can.

Well I can see how much you actually pay attention to sports... Steelers, Cavs, and Yankees fan... wow you aren't that much of a front runner.... by the way Hornets have been playing in New Orleans for a while now...  as for the Paul vs Rondo argument... there is none... Paul and Rondo were spot on, both of their jobs are different on eachothers teams.  Paul is easily the best player on his team, while Rondo is the 3rd best player on his (if not 4th) and he is a top PG, but not a top player.  Paul is a top tier player, as well as a top 2 PG.  Take Rondo off the Celtics, they are still a great team, take Paul off the Hornets, they are bottom feeders.  I think Rondo getting signed for what he did was good on both ends, 1 they get a great PG for years, and 2 Rondo isn' the featured guy for at least 3 of those years so he is making good money for being a disprutor to great players.  The time will come when Rondo will be the best player on this team, and we'll see how that goes.  If they surround him with the right players, and then if he gets frustrated if he isn't.  Winners want to win, players are content winning once in a while and want to be the "player" on the team.  Paul would gladly trade places if he could to win a championship with great players like Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.  I just hope that we get more players to build a championship team like the Celtics, not build a team like the Cavs... (not that I have anything against them) they build to keep Lebrons stats up, and win, but they will not win a championship this year.  "If" he signs back with them, they better do a better job in FA and get players that will literally take the burden off him more then "jump" shooters or an aged Center... if they get Bosh/Amare then they can win it all and be a team to win it for years... but only time will tell...

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

I agree that Rondo has talant but your statement of "there isnt another player outside of Paul and Williams that you would rather have then Rondo at the point" is false.. Rondo is good but not an all star.. there is a list of PGs id pick over him including, CP, Daren Williams, Parker, Billups, Nash and maybe even Kidd (thats just off the top of my head).

NBA reviewing Rondo-Paul incident (UPDATE)

LOL so the average age of the people posting on this thread is about 12...My dad can beat up your dad.  I am tougher than you.  Give me a break...

He's just lucky to be on a championship team.

He's not even worth 55 mills. When he becomes an elite point guard He is elite.
