Kevin Garnett on Wednesday denied calling Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva "a cancer patient" in a trash-talking rant during the teams' game the night before.

“I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night," Garnett said in a statement from his representatives released by the Celtics. "My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact, ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’ I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball.”

After the Celtics beat the Pistons 109-86 Tuesday night, dropping Detroit to 0-4 and sending the team into turmoil, Villanueva wrote on his Twitter account that Garnett had called him a "cancer patient" during a trash-talking rant. Villanueva has no body hair due to a rare autoimmune disorder known as alopecea areata.

"KG talks alot of crap, he's prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him," Charlie V tweeted. "KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke. I wouldn't even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place 4 those."

Moments after Garnett's statement was released Wednesday, Villanueva wrote on Twitter, "
New day, moving forward, Pistons lets get a win tonight." But before the Pistons played the Hawks in Atlanta on Wednesday night, Villanueva was asked about Garnett's denial.

"I know exactly what I heard," Villanueva said, according to the Detroit Free-Press .

Garnett denies calling Villanueva cancer patient

Calling someone a "cancer patient" makes no sense. Calling someone "cancerous" does. I believe KG.

Kevin Garnett definitely said what Charlie Villanueva claimed he said.

There have been former teammates and equipment managers that have claimed KG has been the biggest jerk they've ever encountered. He insults them and thinks he is better than them.

Badically he is a piece of garbage that needed to be on a stacked team to win a single championship. He thinks he is special. Really, he is just a 7 foot tall freak that most people don't even like. At least he has money... what will that money do for him while he burns in hell?

Garnett denies calling Villanueva cancer patient

I was waiting for this rebuttal all day. I wasn't waiting because I was prepared to believe it or disbelieve it. I was waiting because that is the fair thing to do. I noticed this site already had three editorials up waiting to give you each writer's opinion of Garnett's comment before they ever posted Garnett's opinion of his percieved comment. Slow down people, let's here from both sides before you go all in against a guy.

I personally believe he slipped up and said something really stupid and Charlie cried like my three year old about it. I would tell Charlie the same thing I would tell my three year: "Rub some dirt on it and get back in there". CBSSports it's fine if you want to call this 'news' but don't decide on the facts before they are out.

Agreed. Unfortunately, MLB is over and we're left having to watch the first few weeks of NHL and NBA while waiting for the NFL on Sunday. Thank God for Randy Moss and Kevin Garnett, otherwise Sportscenter would be full of nothing but Not Top 10's and follow up stories about Brett Favre.

Garnett denies calling Villanueva cancer patient

Garnett is obviously full of shit. The same way he runs from the bigger players who take him up on the offer to throw down (oh, and Anthony Peeler), he's running from this. Garnett is pathetic. His legacy is permanently befouled, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Parents: encourage your children to compete, but be sure to show them film of KG and remind them, constantly - don't become this.

Garnett denies calling Villanueva cancer patient

Someone please explain to me how this is news. We now have idiot sports writers with nothing better to do than report on trash talk and tweets, and even worse, the rebuttals. If nothing else, this shows how little entertainment is left in the NBA and mostly what remains is the endless nonsense about King James' ego and baloney like Villanueva's antisocial media posts. Pathetic.

It's funny how he says "I know exactly what I heard." When if he was trying to discredit Kevin Garnett he probably should have said "I know exactly what he said!" Sometimes guys like that hear what they want not what was actually said. Given the track records of the two i'm going to have to side with the big ticket on this one.

At least all these comments made the day interesting. There's nothing to read. Need some more drama.

The NBA needs to offer a class to these guys on how to trash talk.  All these references to cancer this and cancer that.  Lame.  Why couldn't KG just say to Villaneuva "I hear they have a beer named after you, it's called No-win-brow" and Villaneuva could have responded "Big Ticket my ass, you just stand under the hoop on your wobbley knees collecting the garbage, they should call you the Parking Ticket".  Garnett could respond "I have a ring!" and that would have been the end of that.  See how easy it is.
