No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

NEW YORK -- The NBA has decided not to suspend Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire for either of his dust-ups with Nene during Sunday's game against the Nuggets, a person with knowledge of the league's disciplinary review told CBSSports.com Monday.

The league reviewed two incidents in which Stoudemire and Nene were battling around the basket and determined that neither one warranted a suspension. In one incident, Stoudemire -- expressing frustration with Nene's frequent elbow swinging -- bodied up the Denver big man as he spun to the baseline and appeared to be trying to push Nene out of bounds.

In an earlier incident during the first quarter, Nene cleared out with his elbow on a drive to the basket and Stoudemire reacted angrily by viciously swinging his elbow -- either in retaliation or to show the officials what Nene did. The elbow did not make contact with Nene, but Stoudemire was assessed a technical foul for the outburst.

The league's disciplinary review was not yet completed, but a source indicated that neither incident would be upgraded to a flagrant foul. A suspension would have kept Stoudemire out of the Knicks' game Wednesday night at home against the defending Eastern Conference champion Celtics. The Knicks carry their first eight-game winning streak in 16 years into the game, which is part of a three-game stretch against elite competition that concludes Friday night against the Heat -- a game that will feature LeBron James' first appearance at Madison Square Garden since rejecting the Knicks' efforts to sign him as a free agent.

No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

This whole thing about every big man that plays against Amare scores a crap load of points, is not Amare's fault.  He is the only guy in the starting lineup over 6'9".  He is the only guy who can defend both of their big men.  Plus, teams purposely go at him to try and get him into foul trouble.  If Turiaf comes in to help Amare than the O suffers a lot.  Basically Amare has no help down low, thats what has been going on.  Plus, when he does get in foul trouble he has to let guys that are drving down low past him sometimes, because he is the most important player to the knicks, if he fouls out it hurts their team a lot.  That is why the numbers are so skewed.  He is not an elite defender obviously, but he is trying now, and he is blocking about 2 shots per game.  He really seems to put in the effort on the D end now.  It makes everyone else on the floor try and play D harder.  I wouldn't place a lot of the blame on Amare for other big men having big numbers.

No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

Why would he be suspended, he was simply stating a message. Nene was getting a little comfortable throwing his elbow around, STAT wouldn't take ish from him. End of story.

No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

I never said Nene was a stellar defender either. But so far it seems almost every big man that has played against Amar'e has had at least a season high in scoring. Bargnani went for 41 aganist him. Lopez 36, Blake Griffin 44, Beasley 35. Amar'e can seemingly score at will sometimes, but it seems the opposing teams big man can as well!

No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

There was ZERO chance Amare was getting suspended with Mr. Stern looking at a resurgent Knicks team on national TV vs the Celts on Wednesday.  He could have gone Rodman on Nene and kicked him in the nuts and he wasn't missing that game!

Nene and his elbows will be tired of losing 50+ every year when Melo leaves with nothing in return.

No suspension for Stoudemire (UPDATE)

He was probably frustrated. Tired of seeing everybody else's big men have career nights against him. Play some defense!!!
