Nene re-signs with Nuggets

Posted on: December 13, 2011 10:27 pm

The Nuggets are keeping this free agent, agreeing to terms Tuesday night with Nene for five years and $67 million, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed to CBSSports.com.

Nene attracted significant interest from the Nets, Rockets and Pacers, among others, but decided to stay in Denver on a day when the team acquired Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer from Dallas into the trade exception left behind from the Carmelo Anthony trade last February.

The next order of business for Denver, which still has room to do more shopping, is to re-sign restricted free agent Arron Afflalo. A person with knowledge of those discussions said the two sides were making "good progress" toward a deal Tuesday night.

Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri met with Nene and his representatives Monday night, one of several meetings the team has had with its free-agent big man. Other meetings have included owner Josh Kroenke and coach George Karl.

The Rockets had hoped to pair Nene with Pau Gasol, but a three-team trade sending Chris Paul from New Orleans to the Lakers fell through. The Nets targeted Nene in the free-agent market but also have been pursuing a trade for Magic center Dwight Howard, a 2012 free agent who has been given permission to discuss a potential trade with New Jersey, the Lakers and Dallas.

Nene re-signs with Nuggets

This is what the league has come to. A guy who only scores 14 ppg and grabs 7rbg is going to make 67 million. No need to wonder what happened to the NBA. Pathetic!

Nene re-signs with Nuggets

Lawson - Afflalo - Galinari - Harrington - Nene
Miller - Rudy - Brewer - Birdman - Mozgov

Sorry to say guys, but this looks like a perennial 30-35 wins team, and it kinda sucks for you, bar Harrington contract and now overpaying Nene are killers to your Cap space and flexibility to get some quality player.

Nene re-signs with Nuggets

I'm just glad they signed someone. It's not like D.Howards coming to Denver. No big name free agent is ever coming to Denver so it will have to be a team game. Tha's good enough to get into the playoffs but thats it. Maybe short season will help. The two guys they got from Dallas will help with the offense.Great they used that exception I thought they might let it go for naught. They need more than the Birdman and Nene upfront though. Those guys in China can stay there. Martin and J.R. both were cancers off and on the floor. We will see you stayed in shape and who got fat during that first 30-40 games. It might be enough for a team like the Nuggets or Timberwolves to get get a decent shot at a higher seed.

Nene re-signs with Nuggets

i know the big man is good, maybe close to all-star status, but not quite.  $67million for him is exactly why teams and the NBA are losing money.

Nene re-signs with Nuggets

Yes!!! Now the Nuggets can stay in contention, without Nene they would have had a rough season. Nene is a very versatile big man. The Nuggets had money to pay him and still have money to resign Afflalo, so I have no problem with $67 million. Nene took advantage of being the best free agent and I'm glad he is coming back to Denver.
