Scherzer or Price?

While a lot of you are prepping for your upcoming draft I would think that Tampa Bay Rays David Price and Arizona Diamondback Max Scherzer have to be somewhere on the top of your pitching list for 2009. It is a hard call between the two youngsters for some as they are both loaded with talent but I personally have to say after watching both of them pitch minimally last year that that Price is standing alone in this debate.

I know that Scherzer is being hyped as the better control pitcher with the "make up" of a future ace but Price just screams unhittable. He came up late last year and seemed to over match everyone he faced right through the post season. Scherzer had glimpses here and there but along with his four losses it seemed that he was a bit shaken in his early and late season call ups. I know that it is tough to go by a small first impression but I am going with my gut here and you can ask my wife....that is one big resource.

Scherzer or Price?

I completley agree! David Price showed last year why he was the #1 pick. Not only his Majr League #'s but his Minor League #'s were phenominal also! Me being a Rays fan honestly when we were @ the wire with the Red Sox in game 7... were begging for him to come in instead of Wheeler because Wheeler just was off that series... that was defenitly one of the best days in the citys history. I was at the Bucs game but left at halftime just to see the end of this game. The fans in the stadium started a Lets Go Rays chant!

Scherzer or Price?

Both young pitchers have nice upside but don't draft them too early. I doubt either of them will see more than 170 innings pitched and maybe 11-13 wins at best. Scherzer may have some shoulder trouble he just had an MRI. As for Price he could end up being the answer for the closer by committee that the Rays will be using this year. Bottom line don't over spend for either of these guys.

Let's play ball!

Scherzer or Price?

Both pitchers are excellent prospects, but I think the edge goes to Price.  The man is the best pitching prospect in baseball.  Scherzer is excellent but I would like to see more of a commitment from the D-backs on his role going forward.  Of course on the flipslide I know in my league there was one particular team owner who was very, very down on Scherzer after going all out to pick him up off of waivers and then having to suffer through his middle relief designation, limiting his productivity.  With everyone targeting Price, and the emergence of this year's crop of top pitching prospects, a tweener like Scherzer might be more of a bargain.
