Daily Picks: 1/19 & 1/20... The Game Has Changed!

Posted on: January 18, 2010 12:09 pm

Just like last year, it’s time to mix it up a little bit.  I have a total of 36 games listed below for Tuesday and Wednesday but they are broken into 4 groups.  You need to pick and rank the games in each group like usual.  For the most part, each group contains 1 game from each conference.  Using my best judgment, those conference games were split into the groups based on “hardest” to pick to “easiest” to pick.  There are 45 possible points in each group.  However, at the conclusion of the games, your results for each “group” will be multiplied by the group number.  Bottom line, there are 450 points available but it’s not going to be easy:

Group 4 (180 possible points)
9-MISSISSIPPI over South Carolina
8-MEMPHIS over Texas-El Paso
7-KANSAS over Baylor
6-TEMPLE over Xavier
5-OHIO STATE over Northwestern
4-Clemson over GEORGIA TECH
3-PITTSBURGH over Georgetown
2-Indiana State over MISSOURI STATE

9-UNLV over COLORADO STATE
8-TEXAS A&M over Oklahoma
7-WEST VIRGINIA over Marshall
6-CONNECTICUT over St. John's
5-William & Mary over VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH
4-NORTH CAROLINA over Wake Forest
3-Creighton over ILLINOIS STATE

Hey Beer it looks like I had a typo with my 8 - Connecticut pick in group 3, it looks like one of the L's from Marshall slipped into the next line.  Anyway I can still get the points?

Daily Picks: 1/19 & 1/20... The Game Has Changed!

bksballer89:  Looks like you picked SOUTHERN ILLINOIS over Bradley twice (4 point and 1 point game in Group 2).  One of those games should be Buffalo at KENT STATE.  Please let me know who you pick to win that game and which game is worth 1 vs. 4 points.  Thanks.

Daily Picks: 1/19 & 1/20... The Game Has Changed!

Hey Beer, if you decide to continue with this format, I'd recommend changing it so the group with the most picks against majority (Ex. Group 4 has 11 picks against majority whereas Group 1 has 20 picks against majority) is automatically Group 4, instead of deciding which is which before hand.
Thanks for the suggestion.  If I use this format again, I'll just let each player choose the weight for each group.  Since this is your second post regarding the weighting of the groups, it's obvious that you aren't too happy with my groupings (clearly pointing out that there are more "upsets" picked in Group 1).  More than likely, I'll just trash the concept.  My intent was not to upset anyone.

I'm also open to suggestions from the group if anyone has creative ideas to make this fun.  Regardless of the "game", keeping track of the results is easy.  Maybe the person who wins the "Week" gets to pick the game, etc.???  Feel free to post your ideas.

Beer,

I am wondering how it does work with spreadsheet and what are the formulas for this.  I have my own spreadsheet by MicroSoft Office.  I wish I could have these LOL.  Neat... 95% of the time, the spreadsheet works for you.. COOL!  Bottom line, Beer...  You do great job with this since I joined here last year (February 2009).  Also, I want to say to dantheman4250 great job with the ideas of the picks.

It is always so fun to play picks with these players.

Geez..  HooiserGuy1019, BoilerBadger and Lobofan2003 deny my #1 spot and I have been in between #2 to #4 spot since it started.  LOLOL  Laughing

They all still do great with picks even newcomers (gezemice, hammerboyy & Fostsogg4UK).

GOOD LUCK with these tough picks (450 points possible) today and tomorrow!
