Intangibles worth proven with Tebow over Clausen

Posted on: April 22, 2010 10:15 pm
The question I answered more often than any other in the weeks preceeding this year's draft was about Tim Tebow and his intangibles.

The second most asked question might have been about Jimmy Clausen and his perceived lack of these same intangibles.

With Tebow leaping Clausen to be the second quarterback selected, we've seen proof of the value of leadership, as there may not be a quarterback coach in the country that would argue Tebow is a more gifted passer -- at least at this point -- than Clausen.

Intangibles worth proven with Tebow over Clausen

In the ever confusing days of questioning Tim Tebow's arm stregnth, I've found another article.

"Tebow has a cannon and he can deliver a 50-60 yard strike down the field on a frozen rope just ten yards off the ground."

Who is this journalist? I have no idea. What credentials does he have to make such a statement? None to my knowledge. But the thought is out there that T2 has the arm to make all the throws necessary to be a QB in the NFL.

Arm Strength: Great arm, poor touch.

     Arm Strength
     Running Ability / Mobility

From 2006:

"Tebow is a southpaw quarterback with outstanding ability as both a passer and a runner. As with most left handed quarterbacks, he has deceptive arm strength and a bit of a wind up release, but is extremely accurate and has so many intangibles. He possesses excellent size and athleticism. Plays..."

This took me about 1 minute to collect this information about Tim Tebow's arm strength. There were just as many saying he doesn't have the arm strength.

Who knows? Kyle Orton has less of an arm than Timmy and he does a decent job managing the system. What are the traits that make him work in this system? All of those qualities that Clausen doesn't have.

Will either make it? Who knows. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet Tebow any day. Maybe not 1st Round type of bet . . . but we'll see.

I have to admit that it's great to feel the hype about the Denver Broncos once again. I hope he makes it and does well.

You are completely wrong with your argument.  Tim Tebow does not have an arm that can be used at the NFL level.  Jimmy Clausen on the other hand has a cannon and can throw almost any pass needed.  Tebow may be a natural born leader but its better to have a quaterback that can throw the ball than one that cant.

What was Mike Shanahan's record the first year when he took over the Denver Broncos? 8-8.

Cut McD some slack and let's see if he was bring it together.

One thing about Tebow that I'm not hearing about is his SPARQ score.

  • (93.38)
  • (96.92)
  • (97.54)
  • (102.31)
  • Gold Medalist decathlete recorded a football rating of 130.40.

How many times are we going to question Tim Tebow when one thing after another says he is the right guy. He may fail but how can you blame Josh McDaniels in going this direction. He may fail but atleast give him a chance first. Look at what he did with the team last year. They should have only won 4 games. We all loved Mike Shanahan and what he accomplished but it's time to move on.

I love tebow, and everything he has done, but you could've still got him with your 43rd pick. If you were to still 3 picks give away 2 3rds and a 4th the nyou could a great CB like Devin McCourty or Kyle Thomas becasue Champ is getting old. They also could've got Jared Odrick. Even if you gave up the 43rd, you could trade back into the second with Seatlle or San Francisco, both who aren' t even looking at Tebow

Good job South Tacoma Guy. You were right with your pick of Teabow in Round One. All those folks that gave you grief about the 5 wierd things column yesterday owe you a mea culpa.

"That's it. I have been a Broncos fan for 37 years, but not anymore. The past 2 years the franchise has made the worst moves possible, and taking Tebow in the first round takes the cake. I guess the team likes being a perennial .500 team. The whole front office including scouts and anyone else involved with evaluating talent needs to be fired!!! Immediately!!!"

Wow 1 season of 8-8 ball and you are out? Good riddance loser we don't want fair weather fans, the Broncos are building something special and I'm sure you will come crawling on the bandwagon like you did last year when they were 6-0 well you better change your name if you do because I'll make sure I kick your butt off.

We were expected to be a 3-13 team last year.
Everyone needs to calm the eff down and find out how these moves pay off.
No team has consistently won in our decade of NFL without a star QB. Chargers, Colts, Pats, Steelers, Cardinals, Saints, ALL of them had "star" QBs.
Denver needs one. Cutler wasn't the answer, according to McDaniels. So far, his work in Chicago hasn't proven mcdaniels wrong.
McDaniels was a QB Coach. we'll see what happens.

Go Beavs!!!! Call For This Clowns Coaches Head

;    I moved from the southeast to Denver for a short time a few years ago. I had grown up with people that only cared about college football. When i got to Denver it was the off season but the only talk i heard in restrants and bars was the Broncos. This was before Mr Elway led the Broncos to the promise land. At the time they were a fair to good team but they were loved. They hire this clown of a coach and the first thing he does is piss off his starting qb. Then the qb knows he cant play for this clown. He demands to be traded. So the Broncos trade a very good qb for a good back up qb. Then this clown trades up to get a qb that NO other team in the NFL would have wasted a 3 or 4th round pick for. Yes the guy is a winner. But he was surronded by a great team at UF. Put him in the NFL where he cant read the D's and cant made a good throw. He will be the laughing stock of the NFL. Then the Denver fans might get the owner to get the team a coach like the fans of Denver deserve. Great fans with a DUMMY for a head coach.
