Ravens want Bears' 4th-rounder from botched trade

The Baltimore Ravens want the fourth-round pick they were seeking from the Chicago Bears when the clock ran out on their 26th pick in the first round Thursday night.

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo has apologized for the botched trade, and sources told The Chicago Tribune that Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti told the Bears and commissioner Roger Goodell about his displeasure with how the situation unfolded.

NFL senior vice president of public relations Greg Aiello told The Tribune in an email that, "We are looking into it." However, the league is not expected to take any official action.

The Bears and Ravens were discussing a trade that would have given Baltimore the 29th overall pick and a fourth-round pick to allow Chicago to move up three spots. The Bears wanted Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi, who they eventually landed at No. 29 anyway.

The confusion came when Angelo said a pair of Bears staff members thought the other was phoning in the trade. The call never happened and time expired on the Ravens' pick. Kansas City was next on the clock, and jumped in to select Pittsburgh wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin. The Ravens then took Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith, who they were believed to have been targeting in the first place, with the 27th pick.

"It was our fault," Angelo said. "They did everything according to the rules. ... We had a disconnect. Whatever you hear, Baltimore did everything right."

However, Baltimore believes it should have had Chicago's fourth-round pick based on a trade that was agreed to by both sides but botched by the Bears.

I don't get why the Ravens are so pissy if they got the guy they wanted.  They may have agreed on it but apparently no one called it in.  therefore it never happened.  Just another east coat team doing what east coast teams do best, bi**h and whine.

Someone help me out....  Why would Baltimore be entitled to anything?  It's a serious question.  I can't figure it out though.  Isn't it their job to go up and make the pick?
Huh? The Bears made a trade and didn't live up to it. They even said they made a mistake. What don't you understand? Stay in school. You need it.

Ravens want Bears' 4th-rounder from botched trade

This is better than the Dumb and the Dumber I think the last time i heard of this happening the minnesota mud ducks did it. I love the way the bloggers on this Blame each other. what needs to happen is some teams need to get their heads out of their behinds and pay attention to what they are doing, You have 10 minutes get it right. The Packers built their team on draft picks its because it was well planned out mistakes were not an option.... get with it.

...that stated. I styill don't believe the Ravens are entitled to anything above a supplemental pick at best. Certainly NOT a 4th rounder.

I don't get it how some people think this is the Ravens fault...BOTH teams have to call the NFL official to declare the trade. The BEARS didn't do what they stated to the Ravens that they would do...The Ravens can't call the NFL on behalf of the Bears to announce the trade. The Ravens front office were awaiting the commish to state that a trade had occured.

As far as the Jimmy smith pick. OK, he comes with some baggage. But the Ravens need a tall CB especially after AJ Green went to the Bengals. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs & Haloti Ngata will keep this kid in line.

To all of the Ray Lewis haters out there, how many wish their team drafted him back in 1996.
Show me a more productive player for the past 15 years on your team. Having trouble? Thought so...
