So it comes down to two. I have to say first off this has been a lot of fun. It has shown the many ways we look at sports an even why some mean more to us than others. Thank you to all of you who stayed with it the whole run. I hope you enjoy my next one as well.

Greatest Sports moments in history. The Finals

MIRACLE ON ICE - A very deserving winner, and probably the best possible choice. Glad to see it made it in the final two.

JACKIE ROBINSON SIGNED BY THE DODGERS - Proud to say that I was the one who brought this up.

Great job IWOK.

I have a tourney running right now for the <OST OVVERATED ATHLETES OF ALL TIME on my blog if anyone is interested:

Greatest Sports moments in history. The Finals

Miracle on Ice and this shuld be decreed by the government just like the city of Taft declared Reno Hightower the greatest quaterback in the history of Kern County in the Best of Times. Seriously Lou was great in all but Miracle on Ice was two nations settling it on ice. Sorry Lou. You'll just have to settle for having a disease named after you.

The guarantee cemented two leagues combining into the strongest pro league on the planet.

Greatest Sports moments in history. The Finals

Sorry for the delay, ifonlyweknew, but here goes:

I'll take The Miracle on Ice over Lou's farewell speech.  I'll also take the signing of Jackie Robinson by the Dodgers over Broadway Joe's guarantee.
This contest has really been a blast and it really boggled my mind a few times while trying to decide which moment to choose.  Once again I enjoyed the contest, appreciate the time you put into it, and am sorry it took me so long to get back on here and vote for the finals.

Greatest Sports moments in history. The Finals

Miracle on Ice.  Most improbable and incredible result in my life time.  Ten months later my Dawgs won the National Championship and yet it is only my second favorite event of 1980.  That says it all.  The other events were also great, but Mike Eruzione and Company believed in miracles and perservered against incredible odds.

What a shame that there is only one page of voters. Where did they all go? Hope your vacation rocks! I agree with you on both counts, retry.  Really surprised so few of us voted.  And have a great vacation.  You earned it!

Hey there to all the Greatest fans on the boards. Sorry I have not been around to reply as I always try to do but this last week or so is my vacation time so I have been a little busy. I have enjoyed this one more than most of the ones I have done and it is all to you.

The next one will be about FOOTBALL as the season is upon us so stay tuned. As always thank you all for the input.

Miracle on Ice might be the feel good story of the century.

The signing of Jackie was huge but it was before l was even born so Joe Willie wins my vote probably since i'm from NY & was 17 yrs. old and it made a huge impression on me.

Almost done ifonly haha

My vote has to go to the Miracle on Ice. Now, saying that, I can't deny how much of an impact Lou's farewell speech had on sports and just people in general. It was one of the most memorable speeches in sports history. People still know the words today, long after it happened. BUT the Miracle on Ice was really a once in a lifetime event that nothing can top in my eyes. What were the odds of a bunch of college kids beating 30 year old vets from the Soviet Union? There were rivals forced to play together for the USA while the Soviets were teammates for years (for the most part). Chumps knock off the champs, not to mention the fact that the Cold War tensions were also going on. It wasn't just about winning a silly game. It was about national pride. The whole country got behind the miracle team and witnessed arguably the greatest moment in sports history. My vote goes to the Miracle easily

The Forgottem momets vote:

Jackie getting signed by the Dodgers. I think that's self-explanatory. Joe made a guarantee. It was exciting to see it actually be fulfilled, but it pales in comparison to Jackie signing. He broke the color barrier in sports. I think that says it all. The man helped change the world by breaking through the wall

It's been fun ifonly. Can't wait to see the final results

I've enjoyed these and hoping you would do another involving only one sport or somethinge like that. I'd have to vote for the Miracle on Ice, no one was expecting that. I say Broadway Joe and his guarantee is the winner against Jackie. They were both very memorable acts but I say Joe edges him out.
