I have to say, I didn't expect such a great response from my Top 10 Baseball Movies, and also getting some traction from my top 10 football movies. So, someone asked for a top 10 boxing movies. There's a lot more than you think...

Anyway, my top 10 boxing movies are below...let me know yours.

  1. Rocky - Oscar winning movie which captured America in 1976, Sylvester Stallone.
  2. Million Dollar Baby - Clint Eastwood, HIllary Swank, Morgan Freeman - several Oscars here including best picture.
  3. Raging Bull - Robert Deniro won an oscar for his role as Jake LaMotta.
  4. Cinderella Man - Russell Crowe plays legendary Jim Braddock
  5. The Hurricane - Denzel Washington portrays fomer champ Reuben "hurricane " Carter, and his fight to be freed from NJ prison for being wrongly convicted of murder.
  6. Diggstown - James Woods and Luis interesting film. 10 fights in 24 hours.
  7. The Harder They Fall - Humphrey Bogart is a reporter in the corrupt fight game of the 50s
  8. The Hammer - Adam Corolla, we needed on comedy
  9. Ali - Will Smith as Muhammad Ali. Enough said.
  10. The Champ - the 1979 version starring Jon Voight...Ricky Schroeder won a golden globe for his portrayal of the son.

Well, just one quick note...I only picked one Rocky movie. Or I guess I could have said all the Rocky movies together make it a 1, but chose the Oscar winner instead. Actually, 1,2, and 3 in this list could all switch places, and no one would know the difference. It's your preference

Let's hear about your favorites.

Top 10 Boxing Movies

Being a huge film noir buff and old movie fan - there was a John Garfield film called "Body and Soul" (1947) that I always thought was a masterpiece.

Thanks for sharing guys...I never saw Play it to the Bone, so I couldn't put it in my top ten. I will try and view the others as well, and see what I think.

It's all pretty subjective USMEagle... Million Dollar Baby got more Oscars, and it was about women's boxing. No argument about Raging Bull being a great movie. It would be number 1 on a lot of lists...and Rocky would be 3 or lower. Others have told me Million Dollar Baby is #1...

Everyone has their favorites.

i just cant see how million dollar baby is ahead of raging bull, and technically the hurricane wasnt really even a boxing movie, it was based on a boxers life after he was incarcerated for a crime he didnt do, there was only like 1 fight in the opening of the movie, good movie though, i say move raging bull to 1, drop the hurricane of the list and add undisputed to the ten spot

Top 3 - absolutely....However, along with 'Somebody Up There Likes Me', you left out "Champion', with Kirk Douglas, and 'Here Comes Mr. Jordan', with Robert Montgomery....

Also rans, for movies revolving around boxers, include 'From Here to Eternity', 'The Quiet Man', and 'On The Waterfront'....

Bradymvp - that's an excellent movie and I toyed with adding it to my list, but just couldn't find a way to get it on my list. I thought "The Harder They Fall" was a better movie. However, Paul Newman's portrayal was really top notch. So, maybe it can go on my honorable mention list.

Thanks for sharing...

I think you left out one of the best boxing movies of all time called "Somebody Up There Likes Me". The true story of Rocky Graziano starring Paul Newman. The movie came out in 1956 so you may not remember it but if you ever have the opportunity to see it don't miss it.

Both movies are great. But big high five to Clint Eastwood for having the nads to make a movie about a female boxer. It has everything great plot, great acting, great action and the highs or winning to extreme low of being paralyzed. Every time I flip channels and it's on I have to watch.

was an interesting movie which was actually more about the US Naval Academy than boxing, but I don't disagree it was a good movie.
