Top 10 Starting Lineups in the NBA

Posted on: July 22, 2009 12:43 am

1. Boston Celtics

Rajon Rondo
Ray Allen
Paul Pierce
Kevin Garnett
Rasheed Wallace

Notes: The addition of Rasheed Wallace to the starting 5 makes the C's with no holes in the starting 5. Also the Celtics have a top 10 player at each position. Yes, Rondo believe it or not is a top 10 Point Guard.

2. San Antonio Spurs

Tony Parker
Manu Ginobili
Richard Jefferson
Antonio McDyess
Tim Duncan

Notes: Ginobili will be able to start this year considering he will not have to attack as much with the addition of Richard Jefferson. This also gives the spurs a starting 5 with players who at one point or another in the career were all stars or borderline all stars.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

Derek Fisher
Kobe Bryant
Ron Artest
Pau Gasol
Andrew Bynum

Notes: Any lineup with Bryant and Gasol will be a top tier lineup. The addition of Ron Artest and the development of Andrew Bynum will be key to the how the Lakers stack up next year.

4. Denver Nuggets

Chauncey Billups
J.R Smith
Carmelo Anthony
Kenyon Martin

Notes: With Danthay Jones leaving for Indy J.R Smith likely will be inserted into the starting 5. The health of Nene and Martin will key if Nuggets plan on contending next year.

5. Orlando Magic

Jameer Nelson
Mickael Pietrus
Vince Carter
Rashard Lewis
Dwight Howard

Notes: The addition of Carter and the loss of Turkoglu will change the look off the Orlando Magic. Look to see a lot of 2-man game with Carter and Dwight Howard.

6.Cleveland Cavaliers

Maurice Williams
Delonte West
LeBron James
Anderson Varejao
Shaquille Oneal

Notes: The addition of Shaq will make Mo Williams and Delonte West look even better. As for James and Shaq? Well i'm sure everyone saw Shaq and Kobe and Wade and Shaq. Doubt it will be any different with Shaq and LeBron. Lineup would be better without Varejao.

7. Dallas Mavericks

Jason Kidd
Josh Howard
Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki
Eric Dampier

Notes: Lineup may look different when the season starts as look to see the Mavs go back to a run and gun offense with Dirk at the 5 and Marion at the 4.

8. Atlanta Hawks

Mike Bibby
Jamal Crawford
Joe Johnson
Josh Smith
Al Horford

Notes: Lineup looks more potent than the offense the Atlanta put out against the Cavaliers. Hawks potentially will look for Crawford to come the bench although he is a more than capable starter

9. Utah Jazz

Deron Williams
Ronnie Brewer
Andrei Kirlenko
Carlos Boozer
Memhet Okur

Notes: Look for the Jazz starting 5 to be solid as always. Boozer may be on the move soon which will not matter greatly as Paul Milsap will fill his shoes nicely.

10. Washington Wizards

Gilbert Arenas
Randy Foye
Caron Butler
Antwan Jamison
Brendan Haywood

Notes: If the Wizards can stay healthy they are sleeper team to go deep into the playoffs. The return of Haywood and Arenas, with the addition of Foye will make the Wizards starting 5 look potent this upcoming season.

Top 10 Starting Lineups in the NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers are number 1.

D Fish may not always start but is a good veteran leader for the team and a good teacher to the young soon to be starters Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar.

Shooting Guard, Kobe Bryant. Nothing else has to be said about this one.

Small Forward, Ron Artest, considered the best defender in the league and can score easily, one of the toughest players in the NBA with some playoff experience.

Power Foward, Pau Gasol, getting more dominant every year with LA. ESPN NBA analyst Marc Jackson even said he was the 2nd best center/power forward in the league during one of the games.

Center, could be played by Gasol if Andrew Bynum is injured and Bynum is young and battled through two tough injuries and has playoff and Finals experience.  He is only going to get better playing with a great big like Pau Gasol and learning from Kareem in the Lakers coaching staff.

Also, one of the best 6 mans in the league with Lamar Odom, rebounding hoarse and a double double machine when he feels like it.  He can easily be a starter in case of injury, also has known Artest since they were kids and says he loves LA.

The Lakers also have the best bench in the league.  With all of this, if they don't resort back to their lightswitch, on/off play they did in the Western Conference Semifinals against Houston and some in the Western Conference Finals against Denver, they should win this years NBA Championship and if this team stays together with little to no injuries, they could win championships for several years.

Go Lakers

Stars? They have just as many stars as Atlanta or Washington without the gapping holes. Curry will not start. Maybe a couple games here and there but he's not going to be a starting. Don Nelson has a hard time playing rookies let alone starting them at the most important position on the floor.

Let’s just go heads up against the Hawk and Wizards

PG: Monta Ellis
;     &nbs
Mike Bibby

SG: Stephen Jackson
Jamal Crawford

SF: Kelenna Azubuike      Joe Johnson

PF: Anthony Randolph     Josh Smith

C: Andris Beidrins
Al Hoford

I say the Warriors win at the PG, SG, and C positions. With a close race at the PF. Joe Johnson is clearly better than Kelenna.

PG: Monta Ellis
;     &nbs
Gilbert Arenas

SG: Stephen Jackson
Randy Foye

SF: Kelenna Azubuike      Caron Bulter

PF: Anthony Randolph     Antwan Jamison

C: Andris Beidrins
Brendan Haywood

Push at the PG. Jackson is the better SG. Caron Bulter is the better SF. I will give it to Antwan only because I like him. Andris is the better C.

solid but no stars in this lineup. Golden State more than likely will start stephen curry. Which will put Kelenna Azubike to the bench and captain jack at the 3

You have got to be joking.  No way in hell the Wiz are one of the top 5 teams in the league.  Furthermore, no way is their bench one of the best 3.  I respect that you're a Washington fan and that you're passionate about your team, but be real.  Your team was 19-63 last year.  That was 2nd worst in the NBA.

Top 10 Starting Lineups in the NBA

Reading this blog, I also couldn't help but notice the situation of the Washington Wizards and the Orlando Magic. For the Wizard, I can't see Foye being their starting point guard. If healthy, I think it would make sense for Gilbert Arenas to be Point and have Mike Miller be the shooting guard. Then the rest with Caron butler,Antawn Jamison and Haywood makes sense. As for the Orlando Magic, it would make sense to have Mickeal Pietrus be inserted to the starting line up, but I read from a few sources saying that the signing of Brandon Bass was to have him play the four alongside Dwight Howard, which moves Rashard lewis to the small forward position, allowing him to launch more three pointers. Then a healthy Jameer Nelson will run the point with the newly acquired Vince Carter at the Shooting guard position. As a hawk fan, I would love that line up to have Mike Bibby,Jamal Crawford,Joe Johnson, Josh Smoove Smith, and Al Horford, but you are probably right with Jamal being instant offense off the bench. As for mostly everything else on this blog, you did well with your interpretations.

Top 10 Starting Lineups in the NBA

You're right. Especially with Greg Oden getting better every year (hopefully he won't get hurt again), he's a great third wheel to Lemarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy. Take out the Hawks and put the Blazers. I mean they've got Joe Johnson and Josh Smith, but they're the only two they've really got, plus Miami's going to have a really good year this year i think. Dwyane came off of a first round play-off  loss, but a great year. He's going to be determined to be better than everyone else, and if all goes well, will push his team to the top 4 in the East, in my opinion. That brings the Hawks down even lower. I don't know how they got #4 in the playoffs last year.

;   And what about the Suns? They might have not have had the best year last year, but they've got Staudemire, Nash, and Jefferson in their starting line up. I think Shaq leaving was good for Phoenix, he always likes to be the best player on every team, but he was short to Nash and Staudemire last year. I'm not sure how LeBron's going to get through this year. That match up is not going to work at all
