NHL starts Thursday ?

Dear NHL Commissioner;
   Why did you decide to start the NHL season on Thursday October 7th ? There is very little on televsion on Tuesday October 5th and you would be able to start the season with a bang.
                                                                                    Your Fan, Mr. Mo

Dearest Mr. Mo;
   It has been a while olde friend, we must do lunch soon. To answer the question: It is the NHL's opinion that little is on television on Tuesday October 5th because it is a day of sports rest. With the MLB playoffs starting Wednesday and the CFB and NFL seasons going strong the average fan needs a day to digest what has happened to their favorite team and ponder the future. We feel that Thursday is a great night to "face-off" (hockey humor) our season. We feel that fans will have little interest in the undefeated Nebraska/Kansas State game or the Twins/Yankees, much less Atlanta/San Francisco playoffs match-ups. I myself am excited because their is a new episode of "This Old House" airing on Thursday night. Keep in touch.

NHL starts Thursday ?

Just jotting some stuff down for later, don't mind if I borrow your post it mr mo, mo there might be something wrong with me, I'm leaning the thrashers tonight, the lightning have won 6 straight and would have travelled the short distance to atlanta last night whilst the thrashers were at home dreaming about that embarrassing game vs the sabres, either the thrashers were overlooked by wash, sj and ana or they are pretty good, not sure the line but I think the thrashers could be a good play tonight....also leaning sens and blues, should have more info after work.

Also like Hamilton in the cfl, I've had a rough time trying to bet for or against the als but they have played 3 games in 11 days, are resting some guys tonight as they have nothing to gain as they have won the east, meanwhile, Hamilton is trying to get homefield. Mtl has owned Hamilton lately.

Mo - I think tim thomas spent the summer building a time machine, he looks great, the bruins look great, deep deep team. Should be a good season for the bruins, that is if they can avoid all the injuries unlike last year, savard slowly making his way back....anyway, enjoy the season my friend.

NHL To Allow Finishing Moves In Fights This Season
NEW YORK—In a policy shift that seems to run counter to the recent emphasis on professional hockey as a game of speed and finesse, the NHL announced Wednesday that it will allow exceptionally graphic finishing moves for the 2010-2011 season. "At any point during an on-ice altercation, if one participant in a fight becomes dizzy or dazed, the arena announcer shall exclaim 'Finish him!'; whereupon the victor shall be given the choice of turning into a dragon and biting off his opponent's torso, ripping the other skater in half with a razor-sharp hat, or removing his hockey mask to reveal a fire-breathing skeletal face before burning his opponent to a crisp," the statement from the NHL Competition Committee read in part. "A two-minute minor penalty will be added to the five-minute fighting major if one combatant turns the other into an infant or offers him a wrapped present." The drastic rule change is believed to be prompted by an on-ice altercation last season after which the Oilers' Zack Stortini held up the skull and spine of the Rangers' Donald Brashear, receiving a three-minute standing ovation.

Interesting stat, both the habs and lighting have 3 Quebec natives on their team, for TB it's three of the top players, for the Habs not so much. Gagne, Vinny and St Louis vs Lapierre, Picard and Darche.....a home game for both teams if you will. Hamrlik back tonight and rumor is that Markov may be back sat.
Not a big fan of the habs tonight as I suspect it will be pricey (haha), Price played really well and they may very well win tonight, those previously mentioned Lighting play well in Mtl, so it will be a lighting  or nothing play for me.

Good luck guys

Yeah, Mtl were certainly pressing in the end, 3 goals in the first and you'd think the over would have a better than decent chance of hitting, don't believe there were any empty net goals yesterday.

No fancy write up, just a gut call, no real home team as far as the fans go, and just has good value, like you said about Niemi and I think Mason is going to have a bounce back year.

Good luck on that over.

 great start by you yesterday. For myself I do not understand how Montreal/Toronto did not go over.
If you want I can copy/paste you onto the NHL thread if you have a write up.

Going with the over with SJ/CBJ at 5.5. Not ready to buy Neimi as the Solution to the Sharks playoff problems.

The NHL thread is up and running by everyones favorite (?) hockey fan. Please come over and join us as we comment and invest in another great NHL season.

I will continue to Blog about my ongoing conversation with his Majesty, Sir Gary Bettman. The man who will continue to drive our NHL into obscurity.

NHL starts Thursday ?

Morning guys....nice start to the NHL, I can see and reply to a blog from work but not a thread, so messed up. I'm leaning towards the jackets today, rough preseason but they are the home team today and will have last change. I like Carolina too but will probably stay away.

Good luck mr mo and anyone else!
