The Best Story in College Hoops

If I told you the happiest player in college basketball sat the bench on a regular basis and was just a walk on would you believe me?  Well you should because a bench warmer on the Ohio State Buckeyes recently said he wouldn't change places with any player in college basketball history.

Mark Titus is an Ohio State walk on and rarely sees the floor.  He is mostly known, not for basketball but, for blogging.  Titus was an OSU manager until he quit but then was brought back to the team as a walk on because of injuries.  His blog is about his expierences at tOSU and all of the behind the scenes things that normal fans don't get to see.  Titus is a Co-founder of Club trillion which is a club made up by bench warmers at OSU whose goals are to get in the game with a minute or two left in a blowout win and not record and stats so their stat sheet shows one minute played followed by a bunch of zeros.  That is what they call a trillion.

Titus' blog has well over two million views and has a very strong following by the Trillion Man March, the name of his faithful followers.  The blog is very funny and as a huge college basketball fan I love to see all the inside info.  Titus gave the nickname of "The Villian" to Evan Turner in the blog and that has kind of stuck to the POY.  On a very emotional senior night Evan Turner who sometimes gets playfully abused in the blog wore a Club Tril shirt with the villian nickname on the back.  Also the entire student section wore Club Tril shirts in support of Mark "the shark" Titus.  Titus ended his career at OSU in very fitting fashion.  He got into the game with a minute left, got the trillion, and OSU won a share of the big ten title.

The main reason though I am writing about Mark Titus is because of the money he has raised for a local Columbus charity.  With all of the shirts that Titus has sold he has given all the money to this charity, A-kid again.  Mark has raised over 30k for this charity.  He has been on numerous tv shows and has become quite popular but he never let it go to his head and has done a great thing for this charity.  I love reading his blog and will eventually read the book he wants to write about his expierences with Greg Oden, Evan Turner, and everyone else at OSU.

Unfortunatly, the only thing Titus will bring in the first round is defeat!
THE (hack, cough, spit) Ohio State University will go down!
You really think OSU is gonna lose in the first round?  You are crazy man.  I'm watching Georgetown right now and they looking like garbage against Ohio U.  If G-town keeps playing like this OSU has an easy run to meet your Jayhawks in the elite eight.  If you have OSU out in the first round I'd love to see your bracket.

thanks for reading bmurcer.  Ya i saw titus making the faces, classic titus.  Thanks for clearing some of that stuff up regarding the trillion.  I also love reading the twitter updates by titus as well.  He has a great story and is one of the funniest writers i have read recently.  I was shocked when Titus cried on senior night but it was really cool to see he cares that much.  I hope they win it for the Shark

The Best Story in College Hoops

Did you see Titus making hilarious faces at the camera when Matta was getting interviewed yesterday by Clark Kellogg?  The Club Trillion blog is also awesome and I'm sure his book will be even better... when he can be more candid about behind-the-scenes events... and can swear more if he wants.

I think it's important to point out that Titus and Peters don't go out there and give a lack of effort when they do get in the game w/ a minute or two left.  They have enough pride and respect for the game that they will still run the offense if there's enough time left on the clock to do so (obviously if the shot clock turns off, they'll just hold it).  I'm just clearing this up for people who might not be OSU fans, fans of the blog, etc.  They are walk-ons who consider it an honor to record a trillion... 1 min played, 0 pts, 0 reb, 0 ast, 0 fouls, 0, 0, 0, 0, etc. in all the other categories (there's roughly 12 0's after the 1, making it 1 trillion).  Titus said that he's figured out that 4 trillion (4 min played) is the largest acceptable trillion... once you play 5 minutes, you should contribute something (a rebound or an assist), or you're lazy and you suck.  Good post though, LBJwitness.  Hopefully the Bucks can navigate this extremely tough draw they've been assigned for the NCAA tourney.

He is a great story, and I love what he did for his state. I loved his entry about hating the Boilermakers and liking IU. It cracked me up because he said Purdue was more likeable then IU and yet that made him want to hate them more, LOL.

Congrats on the Big10 tourney win... certainly wish we could have played you guys again at full strength!
