The Fall of UNC

With the loss to Syracuse, the Tar Heels have fallen out of the Top 10 in the AP(11) and Coaches(12) Polls. UNC will fall further as Hansbrough graduates and Lawson goes to the NBA as well. Had Lawson stayed there today, then this would never happen, and UNC would have won against Syracuse.

The Fall of UNC

Well, the Big Ten won the challenge against the ACC. Illinois made 6 comebacks, compared to 1. They have leverage against UNC.

The Fall of UNC

You are a complete d-bag from illinois,  first no comparison between big ten and acc.  Acc hands down tougher conf. ill.would flounder plaing acc schedule also.  Yes UNC down this year with injuries and graduation,  all they do is reload and be back on top next year.

The Fall of UNC

How about when playing against Clemson? Clemson lead in halftime in both games, but the difference? Illinois came back to win, but not North Carolina. With a loss by UNC, I predict it to be in the 4th 5 in the polls (17th AP and Coaches), the worst in several years. Their RPI is No. 41 with a 12-5 record, including 1-1 in the ACC. Illinois's 12-5 includes a 4-0 record pending a game against Michigan State. An upset there will more than likely bring Illinois back to the Top 25 with a range of 16-25, including the Big Ten lead. Illinois has 4 comebacks, UNC has only 1. So I expect Illinois to improve, while UNC declines with 2 losses to Duke. If UNC hadn't drafted Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, and others not seniors last year, then UNC could have kept a Top 10 spot, if not No. 1. So that is the mistake in part of the coaches and players there.

The Fall of UNC

"The Fall of UNC"?? You cant be serious. You speak as if the Tar Heels program has hit rock bottom, is in complete dumps and will never recover. They lost every key player from the championship team to the draft/graduation and in rebuilding have three role players and an average guard running the court, not because Roy has to but out of respect to those players' tenure with UNC...simply passing time until next year when the next top 5 class comes in and the seniors have moved on. You couldnt have really expected him to start all freshmen/sophomores! I'm sorry they cant come out the gate on fire every single year like the fighting Illini...

This is barely a threadworthy creation, let alone blogworthy. If I didnt know any better, you've been waiting since 2005 to write this.

The Fall of UNC

Let me tell you the truth. Illinois is actually better than UNC because they upset Clemson and Vanderbilt, beat Northwestern at overtime, and got close to Gonzaga today in overtime. It has made comebacks in those games, and how about UNC? It beat Ohio St. and Michigan St., easy games for them. But they lost to Kentucky and Texas because they can't make a comeback. Worse, they lost to Syracuse by a comeback which then caused UNC to fall off the cliff in the polls, and there has been no comeback by UNC this year. So I say that Illinois will overtake UNC at the end of this season or the start of next season. Illinois is 3-1 vs the Top 25 today, while UNC is 2-3 vs the Top 25, so the next time Illinois plays against UNC, I predict Illinois winning within 5 points in regulation, or a total win in overtime.

The Fall of UNC

Obviously, he has to play at Northwestern since they are in the conference.  His comment was regarding the other state schools such as Southern and Illinois St.  The SIU matchup would be a great story line since he coached there.

Maybe he shouldn't have played Bradley on a neutral court since that didn't work out so well yesterday.

The Fall of UNC

Illinois and Northwestern are in the Big Ten. He doesn't need to play in Champaign to play against Northwestern. Illinois came back with its first and only lead to win 60-59 on 2/12/09.

The Fall of UNC

I agree that losing 4 starters off a National Championship team hurts, and the team will most likely continue to drop in the polls while playing arguably the toughest non-conference schedule in the nation facing the likes of Ohio St., Syracuse, Mich St. Kentucky, and Texas all before Christmas.

However, this team will get better as a result, and will climb back into the top 10 to 15 by the end of the year and will still be a 4 seed or higher in the tournament.

I hope everyone continues to underestimate this team.  All I can say is watch out come tourney time.

I notice you don't comment on your own team, probably because there is not much to comment on.  I read the other day that Bruce Webber refuses to play any in state school unless they are willing to go to Champaign.  There's confidence in your own program.
