After three weeks in the NFL we are down to only three unbeaten teams and if anyone out there would have thought that two of those teams would be from Buffalo or Detroit then they should start their own NFL blog.
If you didn't catch our show last week, Meares correctly predicted the Bills would upset the Patriots at home. Make sure to check out all of our week 4 picks this week at www.moleandmeares.com and watch our weekly NFL picks video that will be live on Wednesday 9/28.
Now lets get into the power rankings...
1. Green Bay Packers - (3-0)
For the third straight week the Packers found a way to win and this time it was on the road against a fierce division rival. I am still not impressed with their defense, out of the three remaining undefeated teams the Packers have allowed the most points. They need to find a way to shut down the other team's offense if they are going to want to play in Indianapolis in February. They get an easy game this week as they will play host to the offensively incompetent Denver Broncos.
2. Detroit Lions - (3-0)
And the Lions continue to impress. This team is young, hungry and wants to win, now. Calvin Johnson, or as most people know him, MegaTron, is on pace for 36 receiving touchdowns. They have scored the second most points in the NFC and what is more impressive, have given up the least amount of points. They came back from a 20-0 deficit against the Vikings last week and this week will face off against the 2-1 Cowboys in Dallas. This will be a good test to see exactly how good this 2011 Lions team really can be.
3. Buffalo Bills - (3-0)
Most improbably victory of the year, the Bills coming back from 21 points down to the team of the millenium, the New England Patriots. The Bills are the first team ever to come back from more than 18 points in two consecutive weeks. This team is for real and Ryan Fitzpatrick is as cool as a cucumber. This week should be interesting as they have to travel to Cincinnati to play a dangerous Bengals team in what could possibly be a letdown game. With their recent string of comebacks I wouldn't ever count the Bills out of a game though.
4. Baltimore Ravens - (2-1)
The Ravens have managed to claw their way back into our top 5 this week after an absolute demolishing of the St. Louis Rams. Surprise, surprise, the Ravens have allowed the least amount of points in the NFL through three weeks and their offense is looking solid. Welcome to the NFL Torrey Smith, whose first three NFL catches were for touchdowns, I have a feeling he might get the starting job this week against the New York Jets. The Jets are coming off a bad loss on the road to the Raiders and will be looking to exact some revenge, just not sure if Baltimore is the best team to be playing for that reason.
5. New Orleans Saints - (2-1)
The Saints are rounding out our top 5 this week and are appearing for the first time this year. Their offense is looking very explosive and they have the most points scored in the NFC. On the other hand, like the Packers, their defense has left much to be desired. If Sean Payton can find a way to turn this defense around, the Saints could be a team to keep an eye on come playoff time. This week they will travel to Jacksonville to face the struggling Jaguars. I have a feeling that after week 4 the Saints are going to be 3-1.
