2009 AFC SCENARIOS - Weeks 16 and 17

Joe, if you say that now you just KNOW it's going to happen this week. Wink

I was close on Denver (only looked at the win an in scenarios) but I don't know how I missed the other win + Houston win scenario.

Edge....that's a good start...but try this on for size for DENVER.

First pass...
DENVER BRONCOS

  Denver clinches a playoff spot:
   1) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + BAL loss or tie
   2) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
   3) DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + HOU win
   4) DEN win + BAL loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
   5) DEN win + BAL loss or tie + HOU win
   6) DEN tie + NYJ loss + BAL loss + PIT loss
   7) DEN tie + NYJ loss + BAL loss + HOU loss or tie
   8) DEN tie + NYJ loss + PIT loss + HOU loss or tie
   9) DEN tie + NYJ loss + PIT tie + HOU tie
  10) DEN tie + BAL loss + PIT loss + HOU loss or tie
  11) DEN tie + BAL loss + PIT tie + HOU tie
  12) PIT loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + JAC loss
  13) PIT loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + NYJ loss
  14) PIT loss + BAL loss + JAC loss + NYJ loss
  15) PIT loss + HOU loss + JAC loss + NYJ loss
  16) MIA loss or tie + NYJ loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + JAC loss or tie

I think we might tell the NFL to not include ties this week   ;-)

@Muttley66 - Unless Houston & Baltimore lose, we are rooting for the Bengals.  Ouch.
This was probably the worst game to move to 8:30 for us Steeler Fans.

2009 AFC SCENARIOS - Weeks 16 and 17

Came up with some quick scenarios for 8-7 teams to finish 9-7 and make the playoffs. I did nothing with ties or 8-8 scenarios, as I can already tell that the 8-8 scenarios are going to be convoluted.

NY Jets:
- NYJ win

Baltimore:
- BAL win

Pittsburgh:
- PIT win + BAL loss/tie + DEN loss/tie + NYJ loss/tie
- PIT win + HOU loss/tie + NYJ loss/tie
- PIT win + BAL loss/tie + HOU loss/tie

Houston:
- HOU win + BAL loss/tie + DEN loss/tie
- HOU win + BAL loss/tie + NYJ loss/tie
- HOU win + DEN loss/tie + NYJ loss/tie

Denver:
- DEN win + BAL loss/tie + HOU win
- DEN win + BAL loss/tie + PIT loss/tie
- DEN win + BAL loss/tie + NYJ loss/tie
- DEN win + NYJ loss/tie + HOU win
- DEN win + NYJ loss/tie + PIT loss/tie

So my Bengals essentially will be able to pick their opponent!
Would be kinda funny if the Steelers have to root for my Bengals to win for them to get into the show!

CM....YES on DENVER.  That along with about 15 other scenarios for DENVER.  It's REALLY ugly.

No on need for PIT win.  If DEN wins and PIT wins...they would be #5 (pit) and #6 (den) seeds.

However...if HOU also wins, then DEN is #5 seed on conf record and HOU is #6 on common opponents with PIT.

Ugh, I hate the formatting on this thing
I think I've got Denver's scenario down this:

Win and:

  • Losses by the Ravens/Steelers
  • Losses by the Jets/Steelers
  • Losses by the Jets/Ravens
  • Loss by the Ravens plus WIN by the Texans

Joe, I was checking a Denver Broncos playoff scenario or two.  Could Denver get it in if:
a win over KC + losses by both NYJ and BAL?

If PIT also wins, would HOU also have to win to create a 3-way tiebreaker which would be favorable for DEN?
