Week 16 NFC Scenarios

Atlanta:  1 seed with a win/tie in either of their final two games.  With two losses, they will be:5 seed in NO beats TB.3 seed if PHI wins twice + CHI wins + PHI beats ATL in SoV.  By my count, six out of six games would have to break in PHI's favor for SoV to end in a tie, and then ATL is guaranteed to win SoS by at least one game.1 seed if above "3 seed" scenario happens with ATL beating PHI for SoV1 seed if PHI loss/tie at least once + CHI loss/tie2 seed if exactly one of the following happen:1) CHI wins 2) PHI wins twice
Chicago: 1 seed with win + two ATL losses + TB win/tie vs. NO + PHI loss/tie once.3 seed with loss + 2 PHI wins2 seed otherwise
Philadelphia: 2 seed with two wins + CHI loss1 seed with two wins + CHI win+ (2 ATL losses + TB win/tie vs. NO + CHI loss + PHI beats ATL in SoV)3 seed otherwise
New Orleans: 1 seed with two wins + CAR beats ATL5 seed with at least one win/tie PLUS above 1 seed scenario does not occur6 seed with two losses + GB loss/tie + NYG loss/tieEliminated with two losses + (GB win OR NYG win)
Green Bay:  Clinches at least a 6 seed with win OR (NYG loss + TB loss)Can only be 5 seed with win + 2 NO losses
New York: Clinches at least 6 seed with win plus any of the following:1) GB loss2) Two NO losses
Can only be 5 seed with win + GB loss + two NO lossesEliminated otherwise.
Tampa Bay:6 seed with win PLUS two of the following:1) NO loses to ATL2) GB loss3) NYG loss
5 seed with win and all three of the above scenarios.  Eliminated otherwise.
St. Louis and Seattle:  Week 17 winner gets the 4 seed.  Loser eliminated.  Tie goes to St. Louis.
Feel free to correct and/or pick nits.  Although I have proofread this, it is still a rough copy for now.

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

I think you have missed the scenario where Green Bay, New York and Tampa all lose their last game and finish 9-6.  Who gets the 6 seed; I believe Green Bay wins on SOV.

MeanonSunday,

Green Bay would still win.  They would still be tied on conference record and not have enough common games for all three.  It would still fall to SoV, which would change slightly, but the overall analysis is the same.  Obviously, the Philadelphia-Atlanta analysis is much more fun, as it is still up for grabs.:)

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

If NYG and TB lose earlier in the day, then GB will have clinched before the game starts.
Chicago could be playing a meaningless game as well, if Atlanta wins a game and Philly loses a game by then.  It would degenerate into an exhibition game.

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

I believe the Packers are still in if Tampa and the Giants both lose.

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

The three teams only have Detroit and Washington as common opponents so that shouldn't apply (minimum is 4 games) and it goes straight to SOV

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

But Chili this game is "win-and-in" for the teams playing each other. Should have qualified that, sorry.

Now, I haven't been following NFC blogs the past few days, focused on AFC. Is there a way Pack can lose and still make playoffs? Or are they out for sure if they lose? Apologies for not following it that closely.

pillox

Green Bay will be in a "win and in" situation

And the Chicago market is far better for NBC, so I have no idea what they are thinking

Week 16 NFC Scenarios

Chili,
Adam Schefter on espn.com reports the flex-game Sunday will be St. Louis at Seattle.
This is not surprising, as I believe it's the only for-sure "win and in" game that could not be corrupted by earlier results in the day.
