March Madness Pick Advice

Now, just to preface this entry, I watch a wildly large amount of college basketball. It is a little bit sad but also a little bit fantastic because I absolutely love college basketball.  However, I typically don't do that well when it comes to predicting the NCAA men's basketball tournament and I lose to people who honestly haven't watched one game the entire season.  These tips are to help those of you like me who are very knowledgeable on all of the tournament teams but can't put that knowledge to good use.

First off, don't listen to the experts. Trust me, if you watch college basketball at least five days out of the week, you have watched more colege basketball than these experts. Honestly, while they're talking about the games for the cameras you are actually watching them.

Also, beware of tips and predictions you will find on TV and the internet.  These tips are for the people who have no idea what they are doing.  Also, you've watched way more basketbal than anyone who's making predictions or giving out tips, so ignore that jabber.

Thirdly, don't put too much faith into computer rankings.  Yes, sites like Pomeroy Ratings and Sagarin Ratings and RPI sites can be helpful, but they never correctly predict the tournament.  Don't be afraid to use them, just be sure that you use them wisely.  If you think a team will lose but the rankings state otherwise, go with your gut.  You're the one who has watched the games.  The ratings are just a formula.

Finally, believe in yourself and the knowledge you have accrued throughout the college season.  You know which teams are better than the others because you have watched all of the teams that are in the tournament.  You can do it, I have faith.

March Madness Pick Advice

Good advice, I picked Kansas to win 2 years ago, and I picked Memphis last year (obviously that didn't work). Hopefully the selection will be good.

March Madness Pick Advice

You need to decide who your final 4 is then work backwards.  Take the 9 seed over the 8 seed, it doesn't matter, chances are the one seed will beat whomever wins anyway.  The best match ups in the bracket are the 12-5 and 13-4...chances are the 4 seed will win the next round(based on the match ups) but theres usually a good 12 seed upsetting an okay 5 seed...then you have a 4 seed and a 12 seed the next round.  and if you slide here, you still have confidence in your 1 seed taking the next game.

Haha, yeah, I realized that when I was typing that out. It is touh to predict what is gonna happen when you have a ton of knowledge, so these tips are for myself s well as every one else who wants to use them. My problem is that I hae listened to the "experts" and I have relied too much on rankings sites when I should just be relying on my own basketball knowledge and everything I've learned throughout the season. So no I don't typically do well, but I've never followed this advice before either.  So no don't do the opposite of what I say because I've done that and it doesn't work.  Hope this advice helps a little bit.

So, since you stated " I typically don't do that well when it comes to predicting the NCAA men's basketball tournament and I lose to people who honestly haven't watched one game the entire season. " I should do the opposite of what you said to do?

Basically good advice but would you introduce me to that guy in the mail room that wins as well as the great grandmother who manages to name the final four with ease and a occassional champion.
