Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

There's an interesting Silly Season read from Lee Spencer that got me thinking.

While the big dominoes have been taken off the market (Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne), there's still the question of just where Kahne will be driving next season as his contract to drive the 5 car for Hendrick Motorsports doesn't go into effect until 2012.

When the news of the Kahne was first announced, most people assumed he drive a third car at Stewart Haas, which receives engines and technical support from Hendrick. But with performance declining this season, Stewart Haas may not be ready take on a third entry.

There doesn't "appear" to be an opening at Hendrick in 2011, but there seems to be a growing feeling that something could shake down with either Mark Martin or Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Martin insists he's not going anywhere, but maybe if Rick Hendrick asks nice enough, he'll step aside.

Let's not mince words though, anywhere else it would be the driver of the 88 car that would be on the hot seat. While Earnhardt Jr. may still be NASCAR's most popular driver, I think even his most ardent supporters will admit the marriage with Hendrick has been a huge disappointment.

Perhaps a union with Richard Childress, where his father enjoyed much success, will cure what ails him. Watching Earnhardt Jr. week-to-week is like watching an episode of Lost -- it leaves me confused. I can't understand his steep decline in performance over the past few years. It has to be mental. I believe he has championship talent, but somewhere along the way he lost his mojo.

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

Mikey

I know Richard doesnt owe Junior anything, I just think that if Junior wanted to go there Richard would make it happen because of the relationship that he had with Dale Sr. Thats my opinion I dont know Richard but I do know he would have done anything for Dale or his family. They were like brothers. But who knows what will happen.

Frady

my sentiments exactly. well said.

I dont care who Jr drives for; Evil Rick, Daddies best friend Richard, Mean step mommy Teresa, Michael Waltrip. As long as he starts being competive again is all I care about.

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

Brian good string - I would have to agree if he doesn't go home RCR may be the next logical choice. I really don't see Junior Motorsports going Cup racing too much pain to go through.

As I keep saying LOOK at what's going on with EGR and Junior. It's the small things right now that tell a lot like Jamie Mac driving the #88 Nationwide car when both Cup and Nationwide are racing together or close.

He will be "On the Move" just wait and see  Wink

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

I don't see him leaving Hendrick.  Big Papa Rick is making money off Dale Jr whether he finished first or last.  So until that changes, Junior will be driving for the Evil Empire of HMS.   If his marriage at HMS does end, his best option would be JR Motorshops.

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

Danny, Richard disrupted his operation once, 2009 and all three teams suffered, It won't happen again.  If there had not been such a fit in 2007 about him signing Junior do you think Richard would have let Junior get away then?  You don't throw everything away because "he was my best drivers son" "or he was the most popular" or anything else.  If the other 3 in the shop say thumbs down, no matter what the reason, you follow suit as an owner.  The bottom line is to win and win championships and if his other drivers and those working in the shop say Junior will hurt this operation not help, then you listen.

Like I said, all three drivers are working with Austin right now and will welcome him when he moves to cup.  In fact don't be surprised to Austin in a Harvick next season.  Maybe the Kevin Harvick number 3 car.  Richard doens't owe Dale Junior anything, he isn't blood, although some may think they are.

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

I see what your saying Mikey, but Jeff, Kevin and Clint do not call the shots at RCR. Richard does, and I would be willing to bet Richard would accomodate Junior if it came down to it. Dillion will not be ready for a cup ride for quite a while, by my estimation he is at least 3 years away. As for the 3 drivers currently at RCR, your not talking about a hot bed of success. they have a combined 24 wins since Junior started racing full time in 2000 to his 18 wins. RCR might work for Junior it might not, but knowing Richard's relationship with Dale Sr. I think he would make it happen. But then again the pressure might be even more at RCR than it is at Hendrick. so who knows.

Could Earnhardt Jr. be on the move?

Everyone keeps saying Earnhardt to RCR and it isn't going to happen.  Here are the reasons why.

1.  Richard just resigned Kevin Harvick for 5 years so Kevin is now and will remain the number 1 driver at RCR.

2.  Jeff Burton isn't going anywhere and he's number 2

3.  Clint Bowyer has been the most successful of the 3 the last 2 years so he's going to remain number 3 and not go anywhere.

4.  Richard tried a 4th team last season and the organization on the whole stunk it up.

5.  If there is going to be a fourth team it will be Austin Dillion that will fill the seat.

6.  3 years ago when the Earnhardt to fiasco was going on, Jeff Burton made it clear that Earnhardt Junior was not welcome by him, Kevin or Clint at RCR, they didn't want to put up with the circus that is Earnhardt Jr. nor did they want to deal with the fans, who thinks he can do no wrong.

So don't expect to see Dale Jr. at RCR there is no room at the inn for him there.
