Edwards followed up his his win from the pole last November with a record setting qualifying run to take the top spot for Sunday's Subway Fresh Fit 500. Edwards turned a lap of 132.279 mph to earn the number one starting position in Sunday's second race of the season.
Saturday was the first time the Sprint Cup Series qualified under NASCAR's new procedure of setting the order of time trials by practice speeds. Edwards went out 32nd in the session.
