NASCAR press release:

NASCAR has penalized the No. 18 team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a result of rule infractions discovered during post-race inspection Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

The No. 18 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-12.8.1B (body height requirements – car failed to meet the minimum front car heights) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book.

As a result, crew chief Dave Rogers has been fined $25,000, while owner Joe Gibbs and driver Kyle Busch have been penalized with the loss of six championship owner and six championship driver points, respectively.

Statement from Joe Gibbs Racing:
“We brought the No. 18 car back to our race shop and have identified the problem which caused us to measure low during the post-race inspection process in Pocono yesterday afternoon. We have made NASCAR aware of our findings and we accept the penalty they have issued today.”

sorry, needed a comma and 3 in the sentence- 3 points for the speeding, 4 for the reckless (and don't tell me 85 over the speed limit is not "reckless" no matter who you are and your skills- remember he usually does not have 2 way traffic in his races, - just imagine a Kia pulling out in front of him a block away- he would have creamed it

You are correct- he should only get 7 points for speeding more than 55 over and 4 for reckless driving, leaving him 5 to go in next three years- but no doubt he could get stopped everyday for speeding (3 points) cuz he's an egotistic butthead and "the rules don't apply to me"

Really? #3? Thats his name now? If I do not bow to one of racings biggest bungholes, I am not a true fan? I'd never wish death on anyone but he got what he deserved and good riddance to him. Anyone that NEEDS to punt people out of the way to get by them cuz they don't have the talent to go around them, should never be deified in this sport and doesn't belong on the track. And that was his major claim to fame. I hope he rots in hell and am thankful he didn't kill anybody else.  It's called karma and if KB doesn't smarten up, he'll end up just like that pos Sr. At least Jr. gets it and has righted hisself.

Wow, you are the worst kind of fan. No true Nascar fan would ever refer to the #3 as a jerkoff weather they liked him or not.

redhawk, calm your ass down. If there were school kids, Busch would have been in jail based on NC law. Shut your no-law knowing mouth and give it a rest. You obviously aren't from there or you would know. I don't like Busch much at all, but at least I have the common sense to understand what laws he did and didn't break. Unless you opened your big mouth, like you seem to, I doubt your boss would know about your speeding either. It wasn't a felony; the world only knows because Kyle Busch did it. Maybe in your state you lose your license on the spot, but in NC, you have to be doing something else along with the speeding, such as being intoxicated, speeding in a school zone, etc...

Don't care if I get a 25 rating here- Kyle should not have been docked points for this race- why you ask- because he should have had to sit out a minimum of 2 races for driving 80+ miles an hour over the speed limit on a two way, somewhat narrow road that has school kids driving and biking both ways- if you or I would have done that, our "bosses" would have had it in for us and the police would have surely taken our license on the spot for "willful reckless driving" but Andy and barney (remember they came from NC, did not even let him meet Otis over at the jail

To say he neverintentionally wrecked anyone is ludicrous.

The whole problem with Nascar now is they need someone else besides Jimmy Johnson to win a championship.  So in my opinion they are not going to penalize any contender who has a chance of breaking that streak.  Nascar believes that fans are not watching because Jimmy is winning all the championships.  The reality is people don't want to watch because they are very inconsistent with their penalties.  How many times is Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards going to be allowed to intentionally wreck a driver on track putting everyone including fans at risk.  Yet when Dale Jr used the wrong wing bracket in his last year at DEI he was penalized 100 pts, which then was equivalnt to about 30 positions on track.  Kyle Busch has a left front quarter panel to low and is penalized 6pts the equivalant of 6 positions on track.  Kyle Busch is one of the most loved and hated drivers on the track Dale Jr is voted by fans as the most popular year after year and what does Nascar do hammer him and give Kyle a slap on the wrist.  I love Nascar and have watched for 30 years this has got to stop.  If you want to get out of your car and beat the crap out of each other like Donnie and Cale in '79 let them go at it Nascar that is racing.  No one is danger but the two drivers.  Letting people spin others out on the track and pit road is dangerous and stupid.
