Nearly a week has passed between last week's Jimmie Johnson-Kurt Busch tangle at Pocono but the time hasn't quieted the feud between the two drivers.

Johnson came out guns a blazing when he met the media Friday morning at Watkins Glen International Raceway and said he's not close to putting his rivalry with Busch behind him any time soon.

The five-time champion gave his opinion on why the on-track incident between the two on Pocono's last lap was one thing but what took place afterward on pit road was what really angered him.

"I'm not sure if any have had words with someone before, but when you're in that moment and you're having words with someone and as the crowd starts to build around, that guy all of the sudden gets brave and when you think it's over and you walk away and that guy gets real tough? I don't know about you, but that really makes me mad," Johnson said to the assembled media.

"Bottom line, he just started running his mouth. If you look at over the years and what his mouth has done for him: It got my biggest fan, Jimmy Spencer, to punch him in the face; it's led to issues with the NASCAR officials on pit road; I think we all tune in weekly and wonder what he's going to say to his crew guys; you look at what he said to Roger Penske, his car owner.

"So that aspect is the part that really got me mad. And at the end of the day, I'm not going to let him run his mouth at me. It's just kind of how it is."

Not only will the duo compete against each other in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race at The Glen, they're both entered in Saturday's Nationwide Series event as well. Johnson will drive for JR Motorsports while Busch subs for Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski in the team's Dodge Challenger.

Johnson won't rule out things could boil over but doesn't plan on doing anything to jeopardize the chance to win or damaging his car.

"My first option is not to tear up race cars," he said. "I have too much respect for the guys working on my race cars and too much respect for Roger Penske and his organization to take it out there. That's not my goal, that's not my objective.

"I made zero contact with Kurt at Pocono. Once he hit me, then I leaned on him back. When I went to break the draft, I never touched him. Then he instigated the contact. That's not my goal."

As for how this relationship with Busch will impact his quest for a sixth straight Sprint Cup title once the Chase begins in September, Johnson sais it's going to business as usual and he's ready to focus on the bigger picture.

"There's no secret that there's no love lost between the two of us," he said. "We can do it; we have done it."

Jimmie Johnson still mad at Kurt Busch

I have an idea, Cowboys23: find a hobby that doesn't include reading articles about sh*t you don't care about. (I'll suggest hooked on phonics, but that's just me being mean).

I don't read articles about the workings of a gorilla's reproductive system... because I don't care about it.

Did you take "note's"? (Gotta love useless sacks of monkey shit trash talking who can't even use halfway decent grammar)

Stripelover speaks the truth.  nascar should just be happy people are tuning back in and watching at all. I think they realized the JJ fix wasn't improving their popularity.

Can't we all just hug and get along? Johnson always gets ticked off when someone races him hard, almost like he thinks winning is his entitlement. Can't knock the success Johnson has had but, I hope the 22 car crushes the whinnermobile.

Jimmie Johnson still mad at Kurt Busch

I'm sick and tired of all the JJ haters, that can't handle the fact that he has won 5 straight titles, and Kurt Busch has always been a jerk and will never grow up, and Kurt did initiate the contact. people just have to have someone to hate and due to his success its Jimmie.

I'm not a huge fan of either Busch brother but if you watch the tape JJ clearly turned down into Kurt. I would've hit him back too....

Y'all DO realize that you're being sucked in and played, right?  This sideshow is a soap opera for men ... just one step above pro wrestling, IF it is.
