JOLIET, Ill. - Pre race introductions are complete but Sunday's Geico 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway is in a holding pattern.
Rain showers continued to pelt the track just after the race's 1:03 p.m. central time start and NASCAR is playing a waiting game to see if the weather clears out.
Forecasts call for a break in the rain for about an hour, but radar shows a significant band of showers headed toward the track. NASCAR officials have said the race would try to be run Sunday even if it spills into the evening hours as Chicagoland Speedway is equipped with lights.
If the race is completely washed out Monday's rain date would be used with a 12 Noon local time start being reported.
