The Charlotte Observer is reporting Aric Almirola will take the wheel of Richard Petty Motorsports' No. 43 Ford for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

According to the paper the deal, which has come together very quickly, will be officially announced after the Christmas and New Year's holidays and will include a sponsor announcement.

Almirola, was set to begin his second full season with JR Motorsports' #88 team in 2012, but his move to the Cup series now leaves his future with that organization unclear.

A spokesperson for RPM told the paper Friday night the organization did plan to make a driver announcement for the ride after the holidays but would have no other comment at this time.

Most definitely agree that at this point in their careers, Ragan is much better than Almirola. But this is where dollars speak and not talent. Almirola brings a sponsor and Ragan doesn't. Makes no sense as to why, but that's the name of the game anymore.

Think Almirola would have been better off staying in 88 Nationwide car for one more season and making a few Cup appearances before making move.

Almirola is bringing a sponsor. Ragan would have been a much better fit over at Petty though. Atleast this would open up a really good Nationwide sit. Who ever drives that car though would have to play second to fiddle no matter how good they are.

Well, that officially derails Almirola's "career."  Richard Petty was THE King on the track, and he always will be, but as an owner, the only track he has run on is the "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."  I don't know what it is, but RPM has just never come close to attaining the level that Richard did on the track.  Worse yet, they haven't really even been competent.

I wish I had answers, but I don't.  Maybe Petty should just retire and sell his company.  Maybe he should clean house.  Maybe he should use a different company's equipment.  Whatever the case, he needs to do something different.

I'm not sure I'm thinking this is a good move by Petty unless this young, possible talent, is coming with his own full sponsorship. Really showed us little driving some of the best equipment on the junior circuit. The dinger has never shown any sort of loyalty, so nor surprise he bolted for what he sees as greener pastures, but then again, he has been dumped as well. Better be one heck of a season or he'll be without a ride, period.
