Roobie Loomis has left Richard Petty Motorsports as Chief Operating Officer

"I'm taking some time off," Loomis said to Fox Sports.com. "My contract was up in December and I'm looking to explore what's next. Richard is still family -- so is everyone else at Richard Petty Motorsports. The future is exciting because it's unknown but there's still a lot of uncertainty in what the future brings."

Loomis was a former crew chief for Richard Petty, first joining the organization in 1991 before moving into manegement positions to with the race team.

The Petty operation will enter the 2012 Sprint Cup Series season with drivers Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola.

Robbie Loomis leaves Petty organization

Not a Kurt Busch hater here. I don't agree with how he has treated the media and his race teams he drives for, but I'm not a hater. I'm just saying for the OLD SCHOOL VALUES that Richard Petty still carries that Kurt Busch would not fit in there and the signing of him would have just blown up in their faces somewhere down the road. I like Kurt Busch on the track, just not off it when he does his whiny tirades. Afterall, he's the only driver out there with BALLS ENOUGH to race Jimmie Johnson hard and even wreck him if he has too. I've waited a longtime for someone to put 'ole 2-time...(oops I mean thanks to the chase format 5-time) Jimmie Johnson in his place. I look forward to see what kind of life Kurt will bring to the #51 car this year. James Finch deserves a shot in the arm after all he has put into the sport for so many years.

My early posted rant was on how overrated Robbie Loomis was a crew chief / team manager, etc. I'm glad RPM cut him loose. Can't believe Pistone headlined it that he left RPM when it was clear they didn't renew his contract basically saying see ya !!

ROBBIE LOOMIS CONTRACT WAS NOT RENEWED !!!

First off, read JAYSKI.com and you'll see that Robbie's contract was not renewed. He didn't leave willingly on his own. Anyone who has followed Nascar for longer than just the "CHASE ERA" would know that when Robbie Loomis was originally at Petty Enterprises he didn't accomplish a whole lot as far as ON TRACK RESULTS go. He left to go to Hendrick Motorsports to take over as crew chief for an already well established JEFF GORDON #24 team so what does that say for what he did there ? Not much because the fine tuned team was already in place, he just needed to keep it on the path so to speak. Then he comes back to work for Richard Petty with a fat salary and what are the results ? AGAIN, not much other than a Kasey Kahne Sonoma win and Ambrose winning on a road course (no shocker there). Lets face it folks....ROBBIE LOOMIS IS EXTREMELY OVERRATED !! His fat contract was something that obviously shouldn't have been renewed. Putting Kurt Busch in the #43 would have been a nightmare for RPM and an absolute embarressment to Richard Petty. It won't be long till off-season "smiley & friendly" KURT BUSCH turns into the foul mouth, whining cry baby that he has always been. He has no respect for anyone or anything. The only good things I have ever seen of Kurt Busch are his charity foundation giving money to the VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CHARITY and WRECKING JIMMIE JOHNSON on the track !!! Goodbye Robbie, hope you enjoy all the money you made at RPM and producing absolutely nothing in return......As for RPM losing sponsors...what team isn't these days ?? Kenseth has a partial deal from BEST BUY, Ryan Newman struggles to fully sponsor his car every year and Childress had to shutdown the #33 team because they lost sponsors. Don't try and make RPM look like losers because of the bad economy......

Looking forward to seeing what ALLMENDINGER can do in the #22 this year. I think if he had TODD PARROTT as his crew chief at RPM his results would have been better, maybe even a victory or two.....

Loomis saw the writing on the wall when RPM wouldnt sign Kurt Busch. Kurt wasn't the great guy off the track, but on the track he was the driver they needed to get them over the hump. Loomis pushed hard to get him but RPM was too scared. RPM is losing sponsers
anyway so should have signed Kurt busch. OH WELL!

Maybe it was Loomis who was too slow to change.  Guess we'll see.  Also, there's a bunch of teams out there that would be quite happy with 2 cars in the top 20, so the gloom and doom seems a bit excessive.

I wish RPM would just "call it a day."  Richard Petty is still The King, but he hasn't been able to come close to being as great of an owner as he was a driver.  I don't think the Petty family really needs the aggrivation, and their current course of action isn't really bringing them anything positive.

It's time to hang it up and leave it to the guys who can thrive under the current setup.

Not good for RPM, hope this does not mean the ship is finally sinking. RPM has not been good at bringing in talent or retaining it for that matter. I realize it is because of finances, but if Loomis couldn't do it, I don't hold out much hope for the next guy. This team was too slow too change with the times and they got left in the dust. Ambrose and Almirola are quality drivers. I hope they get equipment they can compete with.
