Danica Patrick reportedly will have a guaranteed starting spot in next month's Daytona 500 thanks to Stewart-Haas Racing's acquiring points earned by Tommy Baldwin Racing last season.

Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio's "Sirius/XM Speedway" reports SHR has a deal lined up to acquire the points from TBR's Dave Blaney in 2011, which were inside the Top 35 and thus guarantees a starting position in the first five races of this season.

Patrick is scheduled to run approximately 10 Sprint Cup races this season, and TBR driver David Reutimann will run many of the events Patrick does not in the No. 10 entry. While Patrick will drive Stewart Haas cars purchased from Hendrick Motorsports in her 10 races, David Reutimann will steer Baldwin’s cars in his outings.

Report: Plan in works to lock Danica into 500

@macgeo... nah she is the definition of mediocrity.  I could care less the fact that she is a woman.  She was handed top IRL equipment on a yearly basis and did nothing with it.  She had 1 victory at Twin Ring in Japan....ironically half the field that year was racing in Long Beach and she won the race after literally every other car ran out of gas.  She finished 3rd in Indy (golf claps) didn't know we celebrate 3rd places now.  When you literally attempt to defend someones ability as a driver and the next best thing after her 1 win is a 3rd place that doesn't say alot.  As for most consecutive races running at the finish...That means absolutely nothing.  You can start the race... run one lap....park the next 200 and run the last lap....Congrats you were running at the end of the race.  4th in Vegas in Nationwide and 10th at Daytona.....we are literally applauding the definition of mediocrity.  If she wasn't a marketing machine like Junior neither would have a ride.  After all how long can one driver continue to not have results while driving top level equipment?  Danica has as many wins as Ed Carpenter....this is where you go who and I go exactly.....it's a joke.  As for your bet I'll take it, and not only will I take it I'll bet you I can tell you the exact number of points she will have on the Sprint Cup circuit....zero.  I think JR can manage to find a way to beat her....even with his proven record of not being able to win a race in what a 150 races and counting?  Thanks for the free cash I'll emailing you where to mail the check.

Maybe if you popped her tit out of your mouth, you would see the entire situation.. You have a racecar driver who dances with mediocrity on a yearly basis. Yet somehow they get more attention and spotlight time than those who are actually crossing the checkered line first.
Maybe if you weren't threatened by the fact that a woman can play (or praying for a 'wardrobe malfunction') you'd recognize skill when you see it.

Mediocrity? You must have heard that on TV, I'm guessing Faux News, too bad you don't have a clue what it means.

Rookie of the year for the Indy 500. IRL Rookie of the year for the season. 3rd place finish at Indy (ahead of 30 other drivers, most of them men). 1st place in Japan (only woman ever to win a IRL race). Record for Most consecutive races running at the finish (which means not last more than anybody else). 4th in the Nationwide race at Las Vegas. 10th place finish after leading 13 laps at the Nationwide race in Daytona last year.

There's nothing 'mediocre' about that driving record. In fact, it's a good bit better than most of the men she raced against.

I'm not saying she and her team will automatically be successful. I'm saying that they won't automatically suck because she's a she.

And if I wewre Mitt I'd bet ya 10,000 bucks she finishes ahead of Junior this year. (GO JUNIOR!)

I know, not much of a bet.

Report: Plan in works to lock Danica into 500

The bigwigs at NASCAR know that having Danica in the 500 could mean a lot more mainstream viewers.  The loyal NASCAR fanbase will always be there, but having Danica in the main draw will attract more casual fans on raceday.  This helps pull a nicer profit when the ratings come in, and also gives NASCAR a chance to convert some of the casual viewers into fans.

If they are lucky, she will make it a moot point by earning her way in.  That would go a long way toward legitimizing her as a bona fide Sprint Cup driver.  Otherwise, the "first guy out" is probably going to be quite angry.

Blaney is getting screwed in this deal.  NASCAR needs to put a stop to the points swapping like this.  I know TBR needs money but this is total BS for Blaney.

All Tony needed to do to insure Danica was in the race was to give her his points from last year.  Tony would be guaranteed to be in the 1st 5 races based on his PC provisional.  Hopefully, Blaney will find a solid ride in the future and will be able to leave TBR, who screwed him last season too. makeing him get out of the 36 car for Geoffry Bodine.

Report: Plan in works to lock Danica into 500

I find it disturbing when fans can tell you more about what a driver looks like with her firesuit off better than what they can tell you about her driving ability.

Sponsorship is what helped build NASCAR. Now it seems like sponsorship is what can hurt it. The name of the game is to reward winning, isn't it?? This is why money and sports should never mix.

Report: Plan in works to lock Danica into 500

Buying and shifting owners' points is a time-honored tradition in NASCAR. Trevor Bayne was locked into the 500 last year because he was using owners' points from the 19 car that Elliott Sadler drove in 2010. When Penske started a third team for Sam Hornish, Hornish was locked into the 500 because he used Kurt Busch and the #2's owners points from the year before. It's not like this is something new for Danica.

Shouldn't Dana be earning her shot at racing in the Daytona 500 through qualifying?  I guess because she's Danica she's "pre-qualified."  Seriously - does anybody else have a problem with her gaining entry into the race via transferring of another drivers earned points from last season?  I guess this just shows that if your not talented enough you can always buy your way into the great America race.  wow.

Report: Plan in works to lock Danica into 500

All part of the plan. Stewart, Go Daddy, had no choice but to gaurantee her spot. It makes sense, last May she almost missed the biggest race in IndyCar at her favorite track, Indianapolis. So with all the investment, there could not be a risk taken of her missing her debut. Funny how the pressure works. Her brief history shows Daytona to be one of her better chances of making it on her own. Oh well I hope Baldwin can still say it was worth it if his cars miss.

If Elliot Sadler gets inthe Daytona 500, then Danica will not finish last.
