Autoweek is reporting that Penske Racing will leave the Dodge camp and field Fords for the 2013 season. An official announcement is expected to come Thursday afternoon.

Penske has fielded Dodges since 2003, winning 26 times in that span.

Report: Penske to switch from Dodge to Ford

Very disapointed in this news, although it is not completly unexpected. The fact that only 3 cars in the weekly lineup were Dodge(2 Penske), no doubt made it tough to compete as far as data sharing and technology goes. Having said that though, it is not like the Penske Dodges were not competing in the standings. Both cars made the chase last season. I for one think it a shame to not have the third Detroit auto manufacturer on the track on Sundays, and honestly it diminishes my interest somewhat, because I am partial. I own three Dodges. But hey! You also have to compete globally, and Chrysler is the little guy in NASCAR.

It isn't so much as all those groups pairing up (considering one is usually providing for the rest) as it is the sharing of data. Dodge's (Chrsler's) time in NASCAR is done, again.

Report: Penske to switch from Dodge to Ford

I think the real story here is that Penske realized he was the only team running Dodges and saw that all the other manufacturers worked within themselves; such as Hendrick pairing up with Stewart-Haas and Childress pairing up with Earnhardt-Ganassi. Penske had nobody to work with, therefore he'll move to Fords and see if he can get Roush and Yates to work with him.
