If you could use the enitre Major League as your player pool, what would be your perfect lineup?? For argument's sake, let's choose all 8 defensive positions, DH (anyone not already selected), 5 starters and a closer:
1) Ichiro Suzuki, RF
2) Joe Mauer, C
3) Albert Pujols, 1B
4) Ryan Howard, DH
5) Alex Rodriguez, 3B
6) Ryan Braun, LF
7) Chase Utley, 2B
8) Hanley Ramirez, SS
9) Grady Sizemore, CF
SP - Tim Lincecum
SP - Roy Halladay
SP - Chris Carpenter
SP - CC Sabathia
SP - Cliff Lee
Closer - Mariano Rivera
The hardest cut was, of course, DH -- for me, it came down to Howard, Fielder and Justin Morneau -- really can't go wrong.

The Perfect Lineup2009 - Dan Haren's league rank was:
1st in WHIP (1.003), 2nd in K/BB (5.87), 3rd in BB/9 (1.5), 9th in hits per 9 (7.5), and 12th in K/9 (8.8) 2008 - Dan Haren's league rank was: 7th in WHIP (1.130), 2nd in K/BB (5.15), 7th in BB/9 (1.7), 33rd in hits per 9 (8.5), and 8th in K/9 (8.8) 2007 - Dan Haren's league rank was: 16th in WHIP (1.208), 13th in K/BB (3.49), 19th in BB/9 (2.2), 28th in hits per 9 (8.6), and 18th in K/9 (7.8) He is the model of consistency in the majors and his numbers have only improved over the years. He is top 10 caliber pitcher, possibly even top 5. |

The Perfect LineupWow, this is an amazing lineup. I can't say I argue, but for argument sake, I would set it up like this.
1. Ichiro Suzuki, RF 2. Hanley Ramirez, DH 3. Albert Pujols, 1B 4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B 5. Joe Mauer, C 6. Jose Reyes, SS - manufactures runs with speed 7. Chase Utley, 2B 8. Torii Hunter, CF - instincts in the outfield, solid hitter 9. Carl Crawford, LF - power and speed As you can tell, I like the small ball ability of the speed guys in the lineup. SP. Roy Halladay SP. Tim Lincecum SP. Cliff Lee SP. Josh Beckett - clutch SP. Dan Haren - highly underrated CL. Mariano Rivera I think having some playoff proven pitchers in any rotation is a must. I also like high strikeout numbers along with low walk and hit ratios. I don't think you can go wrong with any differing opinions, but there are a few unanimous decisions, like Pujols, Lincecum, and Halladay. |
