Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

Duke 78, Baylor 71

After watching fellow one seeds Kansas, Kentucky, and Syracuse go home early from the tournament, Duke avoided upset against Baylor to advance to the Final Four.  It is the Blue Devils first trip to the Final Four since 2004.

Nolan Smith was unstoppable.

Smith scored a career-high 29 points to the lead the Blue Devils.  John Scheyer added 20 points and Kyle Singler couldn't buy a bucket.  Singler needed 5 free throws to get on the scorecard while shooting 0-10 from the field.

Baylor did an atrocious job of boxing out and grabbing defensive rebounds late in the game.  Duke scored much of its big points down the stretch on second chance shots, including three big 3-pointers in a two minute span.

Grow a pair, ref.

Baylor had momentum and was looking to stretch its lead to five with 4:37 to go when Quincy Acy was called for an offensive foul.  Had it gone the other way (the correct way), the foul would've been on Brian Zoubek, his fifth.  The call was terrible and completely changed the game from that point forward.  Zoubek remained in the game and momentum swung to Duke's favor.  I guess the easiest road to the Final Four wasn't enough for Duke, they needed a few crucial calls, too.

Ekpe Udoh is the real deal.

Udoh is a long, athletic big man that can rebound, create his own shot, and dunk.  And he dunks quite often.  This kid should expect a big NBA check soon.

Scott Drew needs a statue on Baylor's campus.

In 2003, the Baylor basketball team hit the lowest of lows with the disappearance and murder of Patrick Dennehy.  Insert new head coach Scott Drew and seven years later, the Bears are in the national spotlight and fell just short of a trip to the Final Four.  It's truly a remarkable turnaround.

"LaceDarius" and "Tweety" are two awesome names.  I'm considering changing my name to one of the two.  Or, maybe even a combination like LaceTweety or TweetDarius.

Bring on the Huggy Bear

Duke moves on to face West Virginia in the tournament semifinals.  This one might as well be the title game.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

One last little comment for Drew "Kentucky" Franklin and kyjetblue.  Interesting their was no mention of Duke having to basically play a road game in Houston as a higher seed, a huge advantage for Baylor.

What can be better than seeing Duke win and Kentucky lose without even reaching the Final Four.   Loser school in so many ways (check out their graduation rate).

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

It's amazing that Duke was able to get so many offensive rebounds with Baylor shoving Duke players in the back on rebounds so often throughout the game-- and the refs swallowing their whistles.  Or perhaps they started shoving Duke players in the back because they were having such problems preventing the offensive boards.  Duke somehow managed to win despite the referees clearly giving Baylor the balance of the calls.

The refs' nasty habit of swallowing their whistles nearly let the game get out of hand.  Jon Scheyer was clearly fouled and had his arms grabbed before the timeout.  The refusal to blow the whistle directly led to Scheyer swinging his arms, which led to Acy pushing Nolan Smith in the back, an infraction that, finally, the referees were unable to ignore, but one that they could have prevented from the start through calling the game closer.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

Drew Franklin is a fatass Kentucky fan, just look at his facebook:

He's just bitter about his team choking in a hilarious way, and he still cries himself to sleep over Laettner. Ignore this pathetic excuse of a writer. CBS, you're embarrassing yourselves.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

Drew Franklin, you're obviously bucking to get hired on as a writer for CBS and are willing to write the most insipid nonsense in order to reach your goals (which CBS actually likes in their sportswriters, so kudos to you for paying attention), but playing the "Duke gets all the calls" bologna is completely without merit, as well as being really trite, even by the likes of CBS Sportsline writers.  If you really think it's the case that Duke gets all the calls or simply just the game-changing calls, challenge your primitive Homo erectus brain to prove it with statistics, not simply shake your furry little fists and hurl feces at the moon.  And remember, CBS Sportsline already has the blowhard niche impressively taken by Doyel, so you'll need to work on a new schtick.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

The "Duke gets all the calls" complaint is played and old. This was a great game with two teams that fought end to end and played their hearts out. Just give it up for now.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

thank you wiggyy for telling it like it is.  why is there always whining about the refs after games?  apparently one call, which was close and not obvious made the difference in a 40 minutes game.  i can't believe a national sports writer with supposedly no interest is complaining about this.  that's just pathetic, write a real article.  anyone can write an article where they just complain about the refs, in fact hometown writers do it all the time.  if baylor were the better team, not only would they have won this game, they would have won more games during the season.  i guess the refs gave the game to WVU, Butler, and MSU too b/c none of those teams are good enough to win on their own.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

Both of you guys are losers.  Must be either Baylor or Kentucky grads who can't deal with the the reality that the better, more clutch team won at crunch time - with one of their stars going 0-10.  Come on, was it refs that allowed Duke to get 23 offensive rebounds?  Excuses are like a-holes, they all stink.  Suck it up losers and give credit where credit was the Baylor players who were men enough to do so.

Smith and Scheyer lead Duke to the Final Four

Thank you Drew for having the guts to tell it like it is!  Another homer ref for Duke on top of the cake walk brackett.  So obvious and yet, time and time again this stuff happens.  So unfair to all the young men who play their hearts out.  It all boils down to the bucks!
