Ilya Kovalchuk 's résumé reads something like this: 338 goals, 642 points, 0 playoff victories.

Though his career spans nine years and 621 games, the Devils sniper appeared in just his fifth career postseason game Wednesday night. And he's still looking for his first playoff triumph following a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Picked up by the Devils days before the trade deadline, Kovalchuk failed in Game 1 to be the offensive difference maker New Jersey hoped he'd be. That's not to say he wasn't trying.

The former first overall pick was denied on four shots, including a point-blank attempt midway through the first period. In the second, he displayed highlight-reel moves by dancing through three Flyers before firing a quick shot wide of the net. Kovalchuk followed the effort by slamming the glass in frustration.

Kovalchuk last postseason appearance came in 2007, when the New York Rangers swept the Atlanta Thrashers. Kovalchuk registered one goal and one assist in the series.
