Vancouver Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts could be the first player to face disciplinary action this postseason.

Midway through the second period of Game 1 against Los Angeles, Alberts checked Kings forward Brad Richardson from behind into the boards. Alberts connected with Richardson's head, and left his skates to do so. [ Video ]

Richarson immediately grabbed for the side of his head and was helped off the ice by a trainer. He returned to action before the end of the period.

Alberts received a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct.

Should the play be reviewed by the league, the Canucks defender could be punished under a new rule implemented in late March which explicitly bans "a lateral, back-pressure or blind-side hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact."

Canucks' Alberts to face discipline for hit?

Alberts seems to have a history of dirty hits.  They should send a message and suspend him for a game.
