Who does not love a Game 7? Maybe the Phoenix Coyotes and Detroit Red Wings, who have an unsuccessful or uncertain past when it comes to these decisive contests.
Phoenix has yet to win a Game 7 in its 31-year franchise history. Even worse, in the four they have played, three resulted in a shutout and the other saw the then-Winnipeg Jets score a lone goal in defeat.
Detroit, meanwhile, will appear in its first Game 7 on the road since April 16, 1991, a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The Red Wings are 4-3 in Game 7s since then, but had the benefit of playing on home ice in each of those.
Detroit has not won a Game 7 on the road since April 9, 1964. The Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-2, at Chicago Stadium in that game to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
